Chuck -
Thanks - you've been a huge help.
A friend who is a Porsche nut/genius said the Germans lost WWII because while their design was the best for performance, it was the worst for maintenance and they couldn't maintain their stuff.
Well, we know that isn't true, but there is truth to the fact that often their engineering does not seem to consider maintenance as a factor.

Because I'm possessed with an over-active mind, I am wondering why my WUR was stuck, first in the closed position, then in open position.
In disassembly and cleaning of the WUR, I could find no evidence anywhere of anything that would cause either. All looked factory new inside - pristine. No signs of wear on anything except a tiny bit on rounded tips of the bi-metallic bar where the spring disc sits....may .001".
The thin disc looked new. No bends, distortion, or even points of wear. Visual marks only from O-ring and center orifice for fuel return, and small round spot on other side where T-cap for rod touches the disc, but no wear or deformity.
No fuel gum to cause disc to stick. Of course, fuel only touches one side - it never sees the side with the thick steel plate.
Anyone have any idea why disc was sticking? Hate to die some day not knowing..........
TIA,

Yeah... and it isn't much more fun working on the design side. Anything we get outta Germany is an absolute bitch to make work properly, the design is massively overcomplicated and nearly impossible to tune (keep in mind I'm talking about software here). By contrast, our North American sourced designs are so much more straightforward and easy to tune...
Oh well, there's probably a comment in there about job security... _________________ Vaughan Scott

First time I ever took apart an American V-8 (49 years ago) I was appalled at how crude the casting was. But then again, lots of room... _________________ 1979 924 NA race car H-Prod SCCA

Yeah, things have changed a LOT since the 70's in US automotive engineering... _________________ Vaughan Scott

You always hear how easy it is to work on American cars, but that might have been in in the 60s-70s. A friend had a leaking head gasket on his Iroc-Z, and oh my its 10 times the hassle to work on than a 931,absolute nightmare to get to anything, takes ages, and that says a lot since the 931 can be very annoying. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo
