From those early pics that would seem to be the best $500 anybody could spend - just don't butcher it!! _________________ 80/81 932/8 ROW |

Yup....it was a deal and appears to be well worth saving. Is it rust free? _________________ 1981 931 (Canadian car)

K managed to take about 20 pics and look thru the interior and look under the front and back. Heres what I found guys n girls.
1. Rms ..I kind of like them. Might want to trade them or I might
keep and polish them.
2. Tranny looks like the modified o16z. Thats what Haynes list it at. No mention of a g31.
Woner whats under here. Were the bushings replaced?
3. Heres the turbo, doesnt look like it was leaking.
4. The turbo sticker is cool got to save that. Can anyone get the stickers.
5. Is it plug and play? Looks like it.
6. Look at this a manual oil pressure guage left behind. Cool
7. All the switches are here.
8. Turn signals too. Good.
9. Anyone want a complete air conditioning sys. Let me know.
10. Fuel dizzy. Lines need replaced. Can I just use the right dia.
fuel proof hose, hope so.
The other end of that.
11. I love it. The door has a little push-in by the mirror. Wonder if I can push it out?

The G31's and 016Z are identical on the outside. If the car is a 931 it is a G31. The uses the 1" shaft. Look at the code on the bottom of the transaxle if you are really unsure. It will start with G31/02

Usually, Joe, it will leak oil into the charge tube and out onto the top of the intake manifold. Unless, the o-ring on the oil feed tube is shot. _________________ '83 944 Track car.

Hmm.. from what I know 016Z is the Audi gearbox and it looks completely different than the G31. Not only that, 1980 only G31 was available and 016Z came on 924 without turbo. |

First thing is to get it running. Humble pie won't work but plenty of grease on the throttlebody will help.
Seriously, what a bargain Joe. Forget about wheels and bodywork. First check bearings and crank, after all what was that oil pressure gauge trying to do? It's a complete strip down job so start with the basic engine stuff. Cancel your gym subscription (you now have real work to do) and invest the money into seals and bearings. |

Not correct, Pete (v8c...) is correct. To elaborate:
The 016Z is the Euro/ROW NA snailshell
The 016Y is the US NA snailshell
The G31.01 is the Euro 931 snailshell
The G31.02 is the ROW/US 931 snailshell
The 016/8 and 016/9 are the Audi based gearboxes for the NAs starting in 1980
The 016/G is the Audi-based gearbox for the S2 931s in the US and Japan.
To complete the list:
The 088/6 is the ROW/Euro Audi-based 4-speed
The 088/A is the US/Jap Audi-based 4-speed
The 087/3 is the Euro/ROW automatic
The 087/6 is the US/Jap automatic

| Dan, you're turning into a snailshell guru! Good thing as I still intend to run with one. I know I will appreciate your knowlege in the coming months. |
