I think it might be a Limited slip, based on my tire marks that I made in the rock driveway. Its funny, I start out rolling and midway through the driveway, full turbo, rocks get kicked up by both tires!

This will not mean you have LSD, could be that both tires had same traction and both broke it at same time BTDT few times.

Best way to check is to get the back end up in the air, gerabox in neutral and spin one of the wheels by hand, if they spin in the same direction you have LSD.
If the other wheel spins in opposite direction or not at all you have an open diff.

Hope this helps.

The 931S as far as I know was only a 1980 model. (???) It had 4 wheel discs (5 lug) 928 16: wheels (not the phone dials) leather interior, LSD, front and rear stabilizer bars, KONI sport struts/shocks. (yellow) This is for the US, I don't know about ROW.

True, but the 931S for 1980 was also an upgraded engine. Instead of the usual double butterfly throttle, the throttle was a single throttle body just like the '81 and '82 models. This, combined with the same crank trigger system as in the later cars, meant that buying the 931S in 1980 was in many ways like getting an '81 or later 931. I had a gander at one last year in Quebec, and I'm pretty sure it was an '80. I haven't cracked the turbo open yet, but I suspect given the other features of the engine, that the turbo is prolly the same one specified for the '81+ cars.

First I've heard that. I've never ever ever seen a 1980 car with DITC. Where did you hear that info?

I was in one last year in Quebec. It was a really really nice car. It definitely had the single throttle body and I recall him saying the car had a crank trigger.

I have the serial number for the turbo here - if anyone can figure out from the serial number what vintage of turbo it is, then we'll know. If this is an early turbo, then sorry, I must have got it wrong, or perhaps the turbo wasn't right for his car (and that's why he was selling it)? Not sure.

5326 970 6407 D on a red, tin plate.

I think sometimes Porsche sells stuff when they built it - and sometimes they upgrade an early car for the next year up, including features and options that come with the later cars.
