I recently bought a new rubber hose that connects the TB to the charge tube and although both are oval the hose is round when new!

I thought I had a series 2 part, but when I tried to install it, it went right on.

I don't know if it will work with one side round and one side oval....

Guy's

As mine is a series 2 it has a round TB, so no hassle fitting the hoses on.
Next items are the suspension bits, just gotta wait for Paragon to ship it over here.
Then it's a new paint job. I'm thinking a REALLY bright loud orange ala the Kremer 935's.
Should stand out on the track!!

Bass, thats pretty much the colour I think I'm gonna go for.

DB racing have a continental orange( I think) 944 turbo racer which looks superb.

just a little snippet to whet your appetites! Next up is the 968 Turbo S rear spoiler, with adjustable gurney flap, fit the Fuch 7's and 9's and treat her to a vivid orange paint job.
Still so much to do, but she is slowly coming along.

Seriously though it does look good, any help I can give just shout as ever....ooh and the interior....I think you should leave it just as you have it now....without a wheel!

Simon,

I decided that the steering wheel, column and rack weigh too much, so it's going to be string attached to the hubs, ala a kiddies kart.
on a serious note, many thanks for the help and advice you've given. Now you just need to advise me on how to shave a few tenths off your times!!

c'mon Si9mon,

a very close second to a 3.0 911 is none too shabby!

Well done on that.

A quickie, is the fuel filler allowed to be inside the cabin to meet with the speed regs? Definately gonna go the jaz plastic tank route (incidently they also do a nice range of garden furniture..mmmm a bit strange??)

If the sealed filler option inside the tank is allowed I'll go the d filler route. Otherwise they do angled remote fill tank so I was thinking of recessing the cap to the right and above the licence plate, like the gtr(really only because I think it looks nice!
Would the filler pipe itself then need to be boxed ???

Please tell me the d type flush with the boot floor is allowed as that route would be p@ss easy!

Bass, I quite like the look of the car as it is. Contrasting white doors..quite nice.

Hi there
Yep a few tenths of the 911 was good but we watercooled types can do better...we can (and will!) win.

You must have a 'firewall' between you and the tank and the filler regardless of what type it is.
A firewall is a bulkhead etc which means you are always physicaly separated from the fuel tank , pump etc.

In a saloon the rear bulkead behind the rear seats acts as that firewall.
The boot floor of the 924 is the firewall as is the plastic enclosure around the tank hose.

For a race car you need to either have your filler neck accessable via a hole in the boot floor and then have a cap to go over that to seal the underfloor from the cabin or you could use your d type filler in the original position and ensure the hose is sealed from the cabin much like the original by an alloy or composite cover.

My alloy tank has the filler cap sticking through and just above the boot floor. To keep it all legal I have a small box made which fits over the tank cap and is held by two QD screws . It has a rubber seal between it and the floor. This keeps the firewall
intact and satisfies the scrutineers.
Hope that all makes sense. I'll send you a photo.

Its worth getting some of the heat protective chrome tape to seal any holes you may have in the front bulkhead also. Holes around cables etc may be failed by a zealous scrutineer.

As thats thew case, I wll go a similar route, and make a small cover to screw down over the filler cap. Have been looking at the AH Fabrications tanks though have been unable to find an details of retaining straps. The plastic jaz tanks seem the obvious route to me, however I understand it will need fia certification and I'm not sure if they have this. Will need to check it out a bit further.

the cell info states:

"Alfhough all JAZ Products fuel cells exceedSFI SPEC 28.1, only fuels cells labeled “THlS FUEL CELL CARRIES SFI CERTIFICATION” are actually certified"

you pay an extra $15 for the certification. Any good??

I cant say if the FIA cert is worth anything.

The alloy tank route looks a bit simpler to me. The straps can be built into the tank. My tank has 4 at the top. I bolt through those and through the boot floor.
I added a web strap to stop any movement and it seems fine.
A lot depends on the size of tank you go for. I have a 2 gal tank and so there's not that much weight to begin with. A bigger tank may need stronger mounts.

In my Fiesta track car - an ex-race car, the tank (approx 15l) is inside a metal box in the boot - I guess it was pretty hard to build a firewall in a hatchback. The lid on the box is secured by 2 spring clips.

I'll get on to ah fabrications to see if they do a tank with inbuilt staps. I'll also give rallydesign a call as they may have a solution.

Whats the concensus regarding the standard cooling fans. I planned to replace with a big pacet unit, though looking at whats in place they seem to have the job pretty well covered. I may buy a lower temp switch to try to keep things cooler and retain the standard items. (and save myself a wad of cash). Will be removing the aircon system, strangely a po has removed the belt driving it so why he didn't bin it I don't know??

Cooling is important, you might consider the Davies Craig elec water pump. It costs a bit but gives very good flow as the stat can be removed.

As for a Pacet fan, yes they work well too. If you ring them and ask for somebody technical you can ask for a higher power motor to be built into a smaller fan body. Hence you can have a higher speed and with the better blade designs they have now you will get a gain in cooling.
This is what I did with Pacet, they were great, cant remember the different motor but it was and is easily better than the std pacet club fan I had..

Simon,

Do you know what the diameter of the bottom hose is for ordering the right pump? And what flow rate version would you recommend?
Are you running the temperature controller or is it just on??
