I like the body kit; the flares are kind of subtle.

Looks like the flares are either D-Production, or an imitation of them. Don't know about that rear spoiler, though. I've seen that one a couple of times, but don't know who made it. For $500 I'd be all over it if it were within a day's drive.

I picked it up yesterday for $400. It also came with the full set of factory manuals. It's been sitting for quite a while but he has replaced a ton of parts to get it running and just got tired of paying $100 and hour to diagnose the problem. The fuel system has already been flushed out so next I'm going to try to track down a flywheel sensor. I found one but the guy wants $300 for it. Is this the going rate these days?

Good news! I got her running last week and it actually passed CA smog on the first try. I was shocked that it passed since it has been sitting for 5 years. The no start problem ended up being two different issues. The ignition module was bad and also the reference sensor was not seated properly. I also installed a new timing belt, water pump, fuel pump and changed all the fluids. I have about $800 total in it, not a bad deal. I've already put 220 miles on it and so far it runs great. Here are a few pictures. I believe the car has a Holbert Racing 924h kit that was molded into the body. They did a great job and after looking through all the records that came with the car it looks like it was installed when the car was new.

It looks alot better in the pictures than in person. The front fenders, hood and rear wing need paint and there is some rust on the brake booster and air filter housing. Also, I'm going to need some spacers to get the wheels pushed out a bit. Oh, and the rear window is delaminated so I will probably just replace it rather than try to reglue it.

If that 931 is truly a Holbert H-prod body kit, it is a rare find indeed. IMO, well worth the $1200 you have into it. I'm jealous! Keep us updated on your progress with the car, and congrats on an excellent find! This should be added to the 931 rescue project thread!

Thanks, when I saw it on craigslist I knew I had to jump on it. It needs a little cosmetic work but it drives great. It's been taking over the commute from my 951. You never know with these cars, it could have been a huge money pit. Who knows, something could let go I guess but I'll have fun with it until then. I drive this car pretty easy, my 951 gets all the abuse!

That 931 is awesome! A real 80's treasure, well done!

I also like the 951, looks like a nice clean motor swap.

So after a bit of detective work I was able to track down the original owner! He owned the car from 1981 to 1999 and then sold it to the guy that I bought it from. I just got off the phone with him and I asked him about the body work. He confirmed that the car was purchased from Porsche with the widebody already installed. He said that it was part of some limited run of street cars that were built to homologate a race series? He also said it had upgraded suspension that wasn't found on the standard 931's. I really don't buy the homologation thing, I've never seen a 931 race version besides the earlier D production N/A cars. I'm not saying he was blowing smoke, I'm sure this what the dealer probably told him when he bought the car. What I really would like to know is if Holbert built any special edition cars for resale. Sort of like what Saleen, Roush etc. do with the Mustangs. Maybe I'll try to talk to someone at Holbert's Porsche in PA. What do you guys think?
