924 Carrera GTS is in the July edition of 911 & Porsche.
Just a one pager... He said that as he raced Le mans in the Factory GTS/R that porsche allowed him to choose a road car. He chose a 928 but the mechanics told him to go for the GTS as they had a few lying around
The one delivered to Bell was given a little extra love from the factory pushing out 290HP. Bell goes on to say that he has a great affinity for the car having done 66k Km regularly taking it on trips to europe. He said he's seen 170mph on the clock a number of times
It does look nice & has pearl white alloy wheels as deliverd from th e factory. If any one knows where he can get the perplex lens's for the GTS call derek - he needs to replace is and can't find them anywhere ! _________________ CGT #330 - & she's all mine.... |

Sweet.
How on earth did you mistake August for July and 911 & Porsche World for Octane?!
Drop a link to the page or e-mail one? Cheers. _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

Derek is a nice guy, spent some time with him a few months back at California Speedway in Fontana testing with Mercedes-Benz USA and AMG.
Vintage Racecar magazine this month has a two-page article on the LeMans entry, and talks about jumping the fence and pilfering parts off of Derek's car to start the race....fun stuff.

"Vintage Racecar", July 2005 www.vintageracecar.com , ISSN 1535-556X. Got my issue because they wanted our shop to advertise in the magazine, too limited scope and not enough subscribers.
Great article on pgs 20-21 re: Carrera GTR at LeMans in 1982. Talks about the driver Jum Busby (author of article), details on engine, driving on one set of BFG T/A tires for the entire race, and dismantling Derek's street GT for parts.
Sorry to cut in on the other post, this was a good recent article too.

Kudos for the post..................really enjoyed it!! I had the opportunity to meet Derek 3 years ago at Road America and chat with him about the car and can personally vouch his affinity for it. The minute I mentioned the car, his eyes got REAL BIG and he escorted me off to the side (he was driving in the American Le Mans Series). _________________ 1981 931 (Concours)
