Hello everyone.

I'm thinking of buying my 924 a Molotov cocktail.

My headlight motor packed in so i changed the relay in the motor as a starting point ( as i had a spare) then to my horror, the red and green striped wired going from the plug into the motor started melting before my eyes. i quickly pulled it off to try and stop a fire. When i checked the lights again, the switch inside the car had melted along with the red and green wire at the fusebox. WTF is going on?? this isn't a loveable quirk, it's a bloody deathtrap!!

I'm not happy and this 924 is pushing my patience.

Have a look for a pinched/stripped power wire in there.

if the switch was shorted , that would happen , try a new switch , maybe wire in a simple toggle to check the circuit before putting in the more costly part.

My guess is that your spare relay was the wrong part, or it was defective.

Did the spare relay that you plugged in have the same exactly part number on it, or did you guess that it was the same by appearance?

Check the end of the wiring harness where it plugs into the headlight switch to make sure the wires are not melted togther. If it is really bad, you may have to cut back the harness and graft a new end on from a scrap harness.

cheers everyone for the advice. i'll check the relay part numbers tonight but i'll be replacing the burned out wire first and then await the next installment of the "924 blues"

Last lifter motor relay i got from eurocarparts had a small extra pin, the circuit diagram on the side was otherwise the same (can't recall where the pin went to, but it was the same as one of the main pins) i just bent it out of the way and it worked fine..

Electrical problems are always fun though, really wish i'd paid attention during the electronics & electrical course i did when i was 17
