Alright. I'm goin on another road trip, exactly 1 year after the fatal road trip that spun my rod bearing. This time, I"m goin to Montana instead of Indiana, and I'm on a fresh engine! so, What should I make sure to have with me when I go? I know I need at least 1 spare qt of oil just in case, and a bottle of coolant. but, should I bring anything else (I know the clothes and the spare underwear, etc. no need for smart asses, I've already got it covered). any ideas? _________________ werd B. |

Sorry for pokin fun. How long has the engine been running? Has the engine been thru several heat cycles? Some times it takes awhile to break-in piston rings, and you do not want to do this at the same RPMs! Like on a road trip on the freeway! But if they are already broke in... Drive it like you own it! _________________ 1978 924 n/a |

When ever I go on a road trip in one of the cars I have been working on. I take extra everything I would much rather be over prepared than under prepared. Belts, hoses, and enough tools to get the simple jobs done. You never know when a belt or hose is going to fail you, and with the big side pockets in the cargo area you can stick stuff there and forget about it. Good luck and have fun! _________________ Life is to short to be looking for something? |

The new engine has about 5,000 miles on the clock, so I am 99% sure it's broken in....As for the AAA card, I never leave home without it now! (not joking) this car has been towed 3 times since we got it... and as for cell phone, I'm good. Very good calls. thanks much. I don't have a gas card, but I do have a full checking account which should make up for everything. Any Shell stations in Wyoming? _________________ werd B. |

I think I saw some Shell's on I-80...
Take a case of Red-Bull or generic, lots of CD's, and put some good H4 bulbs in your headlights. _________________ Ryan Moone

length of wire, electricians tape, normal in-car toolkit as mentioned, first-aid kit (amazing how few people think to carry a first aid kit here in the UK, yet I think it's mandatory in some other countries, dunno about the US?)...
obviously make sure the spare is decent and inflated and that you have the jack etc.
I've not seen much of the US, not seen much of the UK for that matter, so make sure you pack the camera and post some pics when you get back |

I"m back, and OMG, What a trip. if you were driving along I-90 or I-25 in the past week, and you saw a red blur that may have resembled a 924S, it was me. On the way up, I made the trip with an average speed of 100 MPH at 22 MPG. On the return trip, Average speed of 110 MPH at I have no clue MPG (but it's prolly low). We ended up going into Canada, which might I say, Canada Border Patrol are not the nicest of people...USA Border Patrol aren't all that bad. But after our lunch in Canada, we came back stateside, and found a deserted, freshly paved 2 lane highway, and opened up the throttle on the 924S just to see what she'd top out at. Well, we made 133 MPH. Scary stuff goin that fast, ya know, 172 ft/sec....DON'T BLINK! Anyway, the only problem I had on the trip was bad gas in Montana...I always used 91 octane, but when I put fresh gas in from Montana's Conoco stations, the car would often stutter, jump, and miss. However, any other time on the trip, it was fine. no problems at all. I'll post pics in a bit. have some beauties from Going to the Sun Road in Glacier Natl. Park. Well, it's good to be back. _________________ werd B. |
