Has anyone ever designed an adapter to fit the lightweight plastic manual swivel mirrors from the Golf Mk1 to the 924/944 door mounting position in place of the heavy electric flag mirrors without modifying the bodywork with new holes?

I will design one myself but no point re-inventing the wheel. Couldn't find one by googling.

Hello Raize,
I'm not aware of a reusable design out on the WWW.
Should be doable.

Here is a heads-up: If you're focusing on actually using the manual mirror adjustment controls, I have to disappoint you: the three steel cables for the controls are short (~20cm) on the VW version because they tuck under the fixed corner window of the VW door.

On the Porsche 924/944, the control cable goes forward, around the window, because the glass needs to be able to slide up/down. This makes the control 22 centimeters longer than the VW's.
I hope you were already aware of this.

Of course, you can choose to omit the controls; A (one) fixed mirror was the standard for most car brands/types at the time.
Back then mirror controls were optional, as was a second exterior mirror on the side opposite the driver. Rear seat belts were the new shizzle, not that we needed those in the transaxles

HTH
Kind regards,
Harm.
