OK, I have an '87 924S with 135k miles on her. I am looking to start with some summer maintenance issues and since I don't know how old the plugs are, that's going to be where I start. I know with other cars I have had that they will run better with certain plugs. So my question today is what are the best plugs to run in a 25 year old 2.5L with 135k miles?? Also what gap would you recommend ???

Could have sworn it was a .027" gap on NGK BP6ES plugs. That's what I've been running anyway. Engine mileage should be irrelevant to running the proper plug and proper gap. Long as your coil, cap, rotor and wires are all in good shape, and as long as you run the right gap, it should run like a quartz clock with stuff in good working order.

Well, engine mileage CAN affect plug choice.

Sloppy oily engines need a hotter plug to prevent fouling, with corresponding changes to enable use of a hotter plug (less timing advance, higher octane fuel, etc.).

I have had best experiences with NGK plugs (the regular ones, not fancy iridiums etc). BP7ES on 2.0liter engines (931 is specified to use B8EGV, but others work also) and BP6ES on 2.5liter engines.

I agree with raceboy BP7ES for the street.

On track days I use B10EGV but Warmed the engine up on BP6ES.

Forget starting a cold 924 on B10EGV and not fouling plugs!

Just my exp.
Sorry that is all about 2.0....
I haven't done testing with 2.5

Thanks all for your reply. I do agree that on a good running engine mileage shouldn't matter, i'm just used to giving that when asking questions. I don't notice any oil burning or other problems. I am going to head out today and pick up the new plugs and start some needed maint.

Well, I installed the new NGK plugs (BP6ES) and set them @.027. The PO had Bosch double platinum plugs and they were burning clean. I did find 1 wire that had corrosion on the connector, so I checked the wires and cleaned all the connections. The car runs like a dream now, nice smooth idle and great pick-up.

THANKS AGAIN everyone.

Sorry for awakening an old post (again) but the BP7ES has been discontinued and now they make a BPR7ES that they say works (NGK 5534 BPR7ES Nickel Spark Plug is what I can find)

Anyone have any success with these ones after the remake or should I stay away? Also is the gap in the Haynes manual correct (0.024in)?
