Off to Spa in the morning. Sadly not running either of my cars but doing race support for two 968's. One 924 is going over and will be out in a grid of some 50 porsches of all types.
Practice and quali on Friday and two x one hour races Saturday,then it's beer and crockets.

Nice! Went there this summer to check it out and Watch some racing, really an incredible place. Hope i can drive there some day with my 931

Eau Rouge is flat out as fast as you can go in 5th gear in a 924. Blanchimont curve is also flat 5th. I have raced at all the circuits in UK and none even come close to Spa.

I will send some pictures to you Ciprian and if you can post them here for me that would be great as I cannot figure out how to post them on this site and life is just to short

Where do i start, what a few days we had.
Thursday 04.30 start and a 3 hrs journey to channel tunnel and cross over on the train. Then a 4 hour journey through C alaise, Dunkirk, Brussels and Liege to Spa Francachamp race circuit. Managed to blag our way in at around 15.30.
Had to wait until 18.00 for the track day removed themselves and we could get into garage 14 on the F1 pitlane. Unloaded the boxss and tools , plugged the motorhome in and had dinner
Waited for the two 968's to turn up at 20.30. Made sure they had enough fuel in them for the 30 min practice in the morning as there was no refuelling in the garages.done some pre flight checks.
Drivers had to sign on and get their kit scruteneered from 07.30, briefing at 09.00 cars out at 10.45. Cars were scruteneered with the white one getting through with no dramas, however the yellow failed on no rear lights and an out of date fire ex. Only mild panic sets in.
It starts raining, biblical.
There is a fault on the lights and we wire in a temporary solution and borrow a fire ex.

Both cars go out in practice and both have two drivers so they come in do a driver swap and have about 15 mins each

The yellow car passes scruteneering. Change suspension setting and tyre pressures on both cars.

4 young members of the 924 OC have come over and join us in the garage

A 944 that was sharing our garage, we had a 924, a 944,2x 968 and a boxster in, they are that big, came in having no gear selection/no clutch. Jack from our team had a look for the driver and determined the clutch had gone. The driver thew in the towel but we said no let's have a look see.
Lots of grinding and no gear selection.

We then had qualifying at around 14.00 where we had no dramas

Focus was back on the 944. Much jibber jabber and it was decided that Jack and the 4 OC members, Lydia,Ollie,Lee and David would hit the car and get the clutch out

Work started around 15.00

Gearbox was other floor at 16.30 and the drama that was the torque tube came next. Loads of difficulty getting the torque tube out. After some bashing and crashing we got to to release and that is when we find the spigot bearing had failed. I went to our Dutch friends who we were sharing the grid with to see if they had a bearing.
Nope.

Harry had cross referenced the 944 bearing and found it was used in a 991. One of his customers was racing his 991 in the lower paddock and he happened to have a bearing.

So now it was bell housing off and on we go

Bell housing off and it was found that the thrust bearing support shaft had shattered.

No one had a spare support shaft.

The young lads go back to the Airbnb and i have dinner.
I do a quick service of the 2 968's and have a tidy up

Phone call at around 21.00 from Harry saying the new clutch was coming from amsterdam and will be with us around 22.30 and that the thrust bearing support shaft of a boxster is the same diameter but a different flange. If we ca n find a welder it will be possible to cut and shut the two parts

By 22.30,it was welded and the plan was that we would resume in the morning.

That's when 3 of the OC lads walked back into the garage and decided to carry on.

Removed the clutch and flywheel, one rounded bolt which was drilled out.

Now we had the joy of getting the outer race of the spigot bearing out
With the help of two of the RFF boys we fashioned a puller from a flange headed m12 bolt, a big washer, and flywheel bolts we got the race out at 00.20

This was then we found that the S2 was not fitted with an S2 clutch but a turbo one.

Ouch - that makes for a long race weekend!!

As I always say: the #1 most expensive and #2 worst garage to fix your car is at the racetrack. #1 worst being the side of the road... in the dark... and the rain...

Now we had the bearing race out of the crank the 3 lads decided to carry on and put everything back together and use what new parts we had and the best old parts.
I left the garage at 01.00

I was back in the garage at 07.00 to find the car complete and running. The gears had been tested albeit on the jack's. She was running but roughly.
The boys had finished at 05.45

By 08.00 the car was running perfectly, the flywheel sensor cable plugs had got swapped over when refitted.

It was a massive effort from everyone that the car was out and ready for race 1, and I am very proud of those young 'uns

Race 1 started at 10.15 and all our cars were ready.
The two 968 were mid pack with the 944 towards the back end.
And it rained

The yellow 968 came in for driver change after around 20 mins with the front screen misted up. Found the heated screen was not working due to a failed crimp lug on the contact relay.that was repaired in the pit lane and she was off out to complete the race.

White 968 came in with no dramas and had a good driver change and was back out.

The 944 came in with a failed windscreen wipers and misted up screen. It was pushed in the garage where we found the windscreen linkage had broken. So we made it a single wiper system and pushed it back out.

All 3 cars finished
