Thank you to all who took the time out of their day to read,
I have now owned my porsche 1981 924NA for 8 months now. Grabbed a deal that was a little too good to be true (it was) so I fixed everything that was wrong with it
- Rough/incorrect idle time
- dash light wasnt working
- right blinker wasnt working
- headlight motor non functioning
- vaccum leak
- sloppy injectors (1/2 fix with injector cleaner)
Now after I finished fixing all of this, the car drove fantastic for a while. incredibly fun and reliable for normal everyday driving (I do daily drive it) along with a little fun with some donuts when there was a bit of snow on the ground as well as topping it out on a 234 mile road trip during the period it never gave me any problems.
Now the problems start. I went to change the spark plugs (they hadn't been changed since god knows when) and this when the problems start. Admittedly, I did #### up the spark plug wire order while doing this before finally getting it right on the 8th try (embarrassing but necessary to the story), all of a sudden all hell broke loose.
- misfire at idle and sometimes when driving
- will start then die without throttle
- clanking noise coming from toward the mid-back of the underbody
- loss of power (50/50 chance, sometimes it'll start weak then roar)
- hearing a grinding noise for a very brief second when letting off the clutch (maybe a 1/4 of a second occasionally)
- right front blinker stopped working
This is my first 924, its also my first classic as well as manual. I have maybe pinpointed the misfire to injectors so I'm on my 3rd round of injector cleaner (still in the tank but about to run out), it also may be ignition timing, if its not those things I have no clue. I understand the clutch needs replaced soon, but I am totally lost on every other issue.
I am begging everyone on this forum for help. I have already fallen in love with this car, and I will do absolutely anything to save it. _________________ 1981 924NA |

New spark plugs come with nipples threaded onto the threads at the ends which the cables go onto, which the 924 does not need. Did you remove them? If not, you will have a terrible connection between wire and plug.
Checked all the spark leads have the same resistance with your multimeter? Should be 5K or less.
Checked plug gaps before you put them in?
Did you have the distributor loosened off at all at any point? If not, then it won't be ignition timing because it has not been changed. |

If you think your injector might be faulty I would just buy new ones, not terrably expansive about €120 for a set of four. And new Injectors would probably not be a bad idea after 40 years of use. _________________ Restoring a late 1979 Porsche 924. This is my first car and my first attempt at restoring a car.
