|
|
Guys
My first efforts in a 924 turbo engine disassemble
All previous was 911 which don’t have this type of bolt
Easy question …l
What type of socket is used for removal ( Torx ?) size ?
Or will I need a set for other bolts on engine ?
Thanks

There shouldn't be any Torx bolts on the car at all (though nothing's saying some previous wrencher might've substituted the wrong parts).
Should an be metric including allen and, rarely, triple-square (head bolts and CV joints only from what I remember).
Specific to the exhaust... collar? Not sure what part you mean, but I'm not recalling anything special beyond maybe a few allen head bolts - but few if any of those at all, maybe on the J pipe for the wastegate was it?
PS, speaking of exhaust fasteners: be sure to get new copper locking nuts for reassembly, or the damn thing will keep coming apart. Bel-metric has a plethora of these, including the exact correct ones with the reduced wrench size... though note that replacement studs of the appropriate grade aren't readily available, due to the heat of the turbo exhaust... there have been a few cross-references to some Volvo parts, but I don't know that we have a complete/comprehensive list for the whole exhaust system. So save the old ones!! _________________ Vaughan Scott

These are the 3 bolts to turbo
931 123 197 00
Mine are definitely Porsche bolts per photo of part #
They do describe as collar bolt (10x37) with a spacer below
Hope that helps ….
Thanks

| These are 12 point nuts. Just need a 12 point socket. |

Guys
Thanks again for detailed info….
Correct on the common 12 point …
Haveing great fun with all the rusted nuts/bolts and many broken studs
There seems to be a complicated sequence to disassembly of engine & Turbo
All interfere with housings or other components!
Who at Porsche is responsible for this nonsense ?
Thanks again

The most important is to follow the correct sequence when tightening, if you dont have it i can upload it. Yeah its stupid tight, the must have made it in a hurry:) _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

For sure ….please post sequence for install
Also Porsche does show having the 8 lock nuts for the exhaust
But not sure if these are copper as mentioned above ..?
Any specifics on the 8 studs specs ?
Thanks
