Hi all, I randomly was thinking about the board tonight. I have not logged any over five years ish. I was also thinking about our old friend Ideola and discovered his website is long since defunct and seemingly he has dissapeared from the internet. Are there any old members still on who might know if he's ok? I miss the camaraderie of this board. Does anyone still post here anymore?
Cheers

Theres a few of us still hanging around, sadly alot of the camraderie, interesting write ups, project threads and knowledge database has been replaced by FB groups with where the same 3 questions get asked every day over and over again, internet was definitely a better place a few years ago, but thats life.
Dan popped in a year or so ago, but I not sure what he is doing right know. He sold of all of his stuff and most cars and chased other things in life. The days of ideolas garage were nice because many parts and group buys came from there, some of which havent been available since then. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

I still check this site regularly and read any new posts but seldom post myself. Don't have much to add I guess. There's probably a lot of others that do the same.
I seem to recall Dan having a cyber attack prevention related business. I could be wrong on that but I know it has to do with internet stuff. I have a feeling that if he doesn't want to be found, he knows exactly how to do that. I too miss his input around here and maybe sometime he'll drop in to say Hi and let us know what he's up to and that he's doing ok. _________________ '80 924 n/a SOLD |

Miss Dan, but haven't heard from him in years...
But yes, there's still a handful of us around!! Signal to noise ratio still remains as high as ever here... _________________ Vaughan Scott

Dan is good and I will pass this on to him. His write-ups and threads are epic and I am reminded of that every time I research anything!
Its super cool that we develop the kind of relationships we do here and I for one have to be better at posting even when I am not doing as much 924 stuff as I would like
I am not on FB and only sporadically on Instagram. Cedric that was funny about the same question over and over Old school searching of 924 stuff here usually will reveal the answers one seeks (funny this is almost like a Swedish pun).
What really amazes me here is the communication between others from all over the world.
Regarding posting. I need to be better even if I am embarrassed about progress. Life is what it is _________________ 1980 931 since 1989

I communicated with Dan about 6 months ago. He sold off most of his stuff to fund a security patent application. One of Dan's loves has always been music and he is now involved in a venue in Michigan. Seems happy. _________________ 1979 924 NA race car

Same here, meaning I miss Dan's ideas, suggestion, innovation, and his shop for parts, I'm also still around with very little contribution, and hate Facebook for the repeat of the same question lol
I'm pretty much done modifying my 931 WTB GTS and enjoy it during the summer months on back country roads. The car is fun to drive. _________________ 1976 924 N/A ROW SOLD

If you search for Dan’s user posts you can find some fairly recent posts.
He seems to have moved on to other things.
I’m on this board since the early 2000s and many people moved on or even passed on. This is life i guess.
This board is still active and while kind of an ancient thing by now, its a monument and a place for those that stick around the 924.
I’m on this board daily, checking for news from others, and once in a while i get to contribute myself.
I love this place and i’m grateful for the friends i made here. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

What Ciprian said above. I wouldn't be racing a 924 if it wasn't for Dan and Vaughan and their support over the years. _________________ 1979 924 NA race car

Yeah, sorry 'bout that...
I've been hellishly busy between racing and work this year (many trips to Europe to play with back-Porsches, exhausting but very rewarding)... really looking forward to having time to play with the 924s in the new year, both the street Turbo - overdue for more cosmetic/restoration/upgrade work - and the #77 HP - dialing in the EFI on track, and maybe continuous improvement into H Prod spec, namely update some old safety gear and hopefully strip some weight off too... _________________ Vaughan Scott

Thanks for thinking of me, all is well, although I feel like I've lived 3 lifetimes in the last 10 years!
My main line of work is still in cybersecurity, these days mostly as a "virtual Chief Information Security Officer", but occasionally continuing to provide architecture for authentication and authorization systems.
I did sell off the entire Porsche collection, most of which went to fund a patent. It's for a passwordless authentication method. The patent issued on 22 Oct 2022. It took 5 years from inception to issuance. I have not been successful yet on raising capital to fund development of the product based on the patent, but still trying. If you're so inclined, you can read the entire patent here:
https://patents.google.com/patent/US11468151B2/fr
and the website is here:
https://MemeticIdentity.com
I got out of the hellhole that is IL in Feb of 2022 and moved back to the west side of Michigan, a region called "The Lakeshore", about 30 miles west of Grand Rapids (my new home is 2 miles from the Lake Michigan coast).
I launched a music venue in January 2023. It was challenging, but we were tracking well until the landlord of the building kneecapped me...wouldn't let me run certain kind of events even though it wasn't prohibited in the terms of the lease. I needed to run these events to remain solvent while building up the ticketed event portion of the business. I was too deep in to be able to relocate, and ended up deciding to shut down the venue on 01 June 2024.
We built it from nothing in 3 months, and went live with a full schedule right out of the gate. We held over 60 concerts over 15 months of public events, which is really quite a logistical accomplishment for a brand new venue. We featured a lot of regional talent, but also had several international acts in. The most well known was probably Iain Matthews, who co-wrote "Woodstock" with Joni Mitchell. I wish I could share that recording with you...it's incredible.
Our concept was very unique, as it was a mashup between a recording studio and a live concert venue. We captured live concerts with multi-track / multi-camera recordings in a controlled environment. We livestreamed almost all of the concerts to YouTube and Facebook, but I had to pull everything down due to licensing (ASCAP and BMI are a$$holes). But here are some examples that some of the artists have posted to their own channels:
Alex Anest Trio: https://youtu.be/he4g509sRvs?feature=shared
Pajamas: https://youtu.be/6f-Fw0wdvME?feature=shared
Grace Theisen: https://youtu.be/CJKMF3iexxs?feature=shared
J Michael & The Heavy Burden: https://youtu.be/nJphilsy60s?feature=shared
Deerfield Run: https://youtu.be/ZkKJ9oLiP5k?feature=shared
Puffin Down: https://youtu.be/hIh14cWdQ64?feature=shared
And here's a bootleg made by our stills photog when I was invited to jam on stage with Asamu Johnson and The Associates of the Blues: https://youtu.be/GURAUp7-Mn8?feature=shared
After shutting the venue, I moved all the recording gear back into my house and have been slowly re-constituting my music studio here. I am meeting in January with my videography partner, as I have ideas and aspirations to do a livestream type situation not unlike "Tiny Desk" performances from my basement.
In the meantime, I satisfy my mechanical urges with a few motorcycles. I picked up a Janus Gryffin 250, and a couple of Royal Enfield 650s that I have heavily modified (as per usual for me!). Don't have a convenient way to post pix these days, but they are "not quite stock"
I do miss all of you, and the wonderful times we had together both with in-person meetups, and invigorating discussion here. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |
