I’ve had it for about 4-5 weeks now.
Got it running and driving, brakes fixed, all serviced and basically everything working except for the air conditioning.
I had bought the wheels and an entire new roof to remove the skin from before I even picked the car up.
Ive finished the bodywork except for a couple of low spots and it’s in high-fill primer now.
Waiting on some steering parts like rack ends and tie rod ends and a few bushes and it’s ready for the road.
These pics are massive but I don’t know how to resize them sorry. I’ll start with a few before pics from when I bought it:
And here is where it’s at now:
I haven’t done much visually to the engine bay but I’ll update again when I’ve tidied it up in a couple of weeks.
Colour is picked out, should be on and finished within a month, probably after the engine bay makeover.
Decided I’ll hold onto this car for a while so looking forward to having more fun with it.
Thanks again to the people who told me to get after it - this has been a lot of fun so far. [/img] _________________ Current garage:

Getting it running really only required fixing the leaks in the split air intake pipe, freeing up the fuel pumps and giving the system a flush.
Driving just required un-seizing the brakes.
Now I’m just getting it all dialled in by fixing the bits I find as I go.
I honestly didn’t realise AC was rare so I wasn’t too worried about getting it up and running.
But I’ll have a look. The compressor spins smoothly enough but doesn’t feel like there is much pressure behind it.
Next time I run the engine I’ll get v+ onto the compressor clutch and see if it spins and how it sounds if it does.
I’d imagine it’s R12 so may have to retrofit valves and do a drier.
I did find it odd to have AC on a 1979 model car that doesn’t even have power steering. _________________ Current garage:

That's an impressive transformation already! Just getting some wheels to fill the fenders is a big improvement, but the bodywork looks pretty good too.
On the AC, I like having it - it gets hot enough during the summer that can get miserable without it - but since I have a couple other vehicles with AC, I don't see it as
worth the effort. In fact, I'd rather not have the weight, but where I live there's not much humidity and you only get a couple weeks worth of the "dog days" of summer. I know AC
was an option fairly early on, but I don't know if power steering ever was on the 924. The car doesn't really need it, not with the width of tires the car was intended for anyway. If
the system still has some refrigerant in it, you might be able to get it going pretty easily. I'm not sure if it uses o-rings for the fittings (it's old enough that they might be flare
fittings), but replacing those along with the compressor shaft seal would be a good idea. If the system has been contaminated, then a thorough flushing and a new or rebuilt
compressor would be called for. In all cases, a new receiver/drier is basically necessary, and new soft lines wouldn't be a bad idea. It partly depends on how committed you are to
having AC though: if it's a "nice to have," then a more minimal job may be worth taking a chance on. _________________ 1980 931 diamond in the rough |

Wow! Bobby...that is sensational progress. Great job.
So many times on forums one sees sad cars with new owners declaring that all will be made good, and of course it never happens. You have really turned this one around. Another Toofah saved. Bravo! _________________ 80/81 932/8 ROW |
