From: Vaughan Email: vscott77@nospam.hotmail.com Date: 11 Jul 2001 Time: 13:37:11It's kinda funny to think back now about the idea of us moving over to the rennlist boards. I don't know if many of you have been looking at them, particularly the 924/944/968 board (I've seen a few regulars over there), but watching it now I see another reason to add to the list of why not to go there... because there's a whole crop of kids who've gotten 944's and are posting all kindsa crap about irresponsible driving, leafblowers, and other such junk... feels like we're nicely isolated from the bulk of that garbage over here... don't get me wrong, I'm no old fart (26), but it's kinda nice to not have to wade through all kinds of junk about spoilers and clear taillights and how to drive out of spins and how to drag race and... well, you get the idea... at least when we argue it's about subjects with some technical content and merit! I continue to prefer this side of the extended Porsche community...
I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!
j/k :)

From: F924T Email: fasencio@juno.com Date: 11 Jul 2001 Time: 14:05:06I know what you mean; I frequent a board for BMW's and is really inmature the subject matter that gets discussed there sometimes; and also the bickoring. In turn everyone here seems very Knowledgeable and mature; I love this place.
I am and old fart too...25.

From: larso Email: l_porsche@hotmail.com Date: 11 Jul 2001 Time: 15:00:18hey dude, sorry, but you ARE an old fart, to me, i mean you are 9 years older than me, you are rich, i am poor.
Thats one good reason the 924 isn't that fast....at least kids CAN't drag race with them, i mean honestly, 951s are draggin civics and camaros ALL the time on other boards!!
It seems that when cars are FAST and have good handling, people forget about teh good handling and go directly to DRAG racing...the 924 you are FORCED to have fun on the twists.
Then there are those guys with 931s trying to make drgsters with intercoolers...bah...give up, the 951 does sub 5 second 0-60s with some mods, without an intercooler, so just go buy a 951.

From: brian Email: bcookt06394@yahoo.com Date: 11 Jul 2001 Time: 15:24:26It's interesting that you mention restoring the cars to cherish rather than to get from A-B in a Porsche.
My red 924 is pretty ratty inside, the front corner is dented, it leaks like a funnel, and has been called in the past the "Redneck Roadster." I was happy because it got me to work every day, ran well, and was entertaining to drive.
However, now that I've got my 931 running, I prefer to shift low, run stock boost, and just cruise. The car is beautiful inside and out and it actually feels worthy of care. Back when I was a kid like some of you guys (i'm 27 now), I beat up my share of cars. Whether it's nostalgia, respect, or alzheimers now, I just like driving the car without regard to the wannabe racers in the world.
Viva! Viva!
However, I could have easily taken that 3.2CL Type-S today.......

From: Peter in AU Email: Peter@planb.net.au Date: 11 Jul 2001 Time: 22:54:40the 924, especially the 931, is heading the way of the 914, trust me.
Here's the theory; if when you were 18 you were really turned-on by a particular model of car but couldn't afford it at the time and then when you could afford one the kids needed their teeth fixed and the mortgage needed to be paid so when you finally get your life organised (say at 40-something)you'll start thinking about that car again - you and a lot of other people the same age. At that point the last few good examples become very expensive.
As we're all doing the big age-share, I remember when I started work, 22 years ago, one of the guys suggested I buy a 356 because no-one wanted them and they were really cheap like about $4K for a very good one. I didn't. Look at what you pay for a 356 now! This same story repeated itself 12 years ago only that time it was a Lamborghini Espada V12 that I didn't buy for virtually nothing. Some people never learn.
If you guys keep chopping up 3 924s to make 1 good one then the price will start going up because only good ones will be left. Then you can tell anyone who will listen that you used to own 3 924s and impress the shit out of them.
That's the theory anyway.
Peter in Sydney AU.

From: D Hook Email: DHook65857@aol.com Date: 13 Jul 2001 Time: 22:00:16Yeah, I had a '67 Ford Fairlane XL with the 390 4 speed option. Unbelievable car. Never should have sold it. Sold it in '77 so I could buy a TR6 Triumph. The TR6 is in a rust heap somewhere and I bet that Fairlane is in someone's garage appreciating in value. That's the ONLY car I ever regret selling. I tried to find it a few years ago but no luck. I still check ebay once in awhile...thinking it might show up. Never should have sold it. (Sigh)(Tear in corner of eye.)
