Hi all,

I've searched and searched, but am just completely stuck.

I have a 1983 2.0 car into which I've placed a 1985 2.0 harness. The original harness was hacked to bits, and there was just no point starting with it so I took it off a long term project.

The issue now is that with the harness in, the car won't start. I've narrowed it down to no spark. I have replaced the coil, the dizzy and lots of other parts but I'm still back to a car that's happy to crank, but not happy to fire.

Last week, if I jumped the + of the coil directly from the battery, the car would run...but now that makes no difference what-so-ever.

As I have good voltage to + of the coil, I'm wondering if it's my Ignition Control Module. I have a spare one which I've tested, but that has made no difference.

Anyway, there's lots of posts here about no fuel but having a no spark condition that isn't solved by replacing the coil/plugs/leads etc is comparatively rare.

So, in utter frustration I'm at a loss. Any ideas?

Do you have plugs in the correct order and the dizzy set correctly? Correctly gapped spark plugs? Start with all the small stuff you think is good and check again, likely something small along the way slipped by unnoticed and is now causing pain.

So;

Timing is set at the cam, crank and flywheel.

Dizzy has arm pointed at the slot and 1,3,4,2 is the plug order off the cap to the engine.

Power to the coil, and lead plugged in to dizzy.

When I turn it over the FPR kicks into action.

Only thing I’m wondering about is the connection of the ignition switch to the ICM-I had a situation with no FPR kicking in when cranking which was fixed by fiddling with the ignition switch.

I put a new ignition switch in today…The key is now doing what it should do (FPR kicks in when cranking etc) It even fired up, but was running badly. Went to move the distributor to get it running a bit better and it just died…unable to replicate poor running.
