Greetings!

I've recently purchased a 77 Martini Rossi Edition 924. I'm exited to own the car and look forward to tinkering with it.

One of it's issues is the headlights not retracting back down. Popping up is no problem. Thus, the dash lights, etc. stay on as well until I lift the hood and manually retract the headlights by turning the knob on motor counter-clock wise. I did try a new motor relay, but the issue still exists. Any input is appreciated.

Thank in advance!

Tommy

Hi Tommy,

what you describe, is this with the enginne running or just ignition-on?

With the pop-ups open and on, and your dash lights on - what happens if you switch off the ignition?

All lights off but pop-ups still open?

Does the setting of your light switch change anything at all? It's a two-stage switch btw.

Hi Eliza,

I appreciate the response. Let me describe what transpires more thoroughly.

With key out of ignition (not running):

First Headlight Switch Position -

- Headlights pop up, but don't illuminate
- Parking, rear, side marker, license and dash lights are ON

Second Headlight Switch Position: Same as first position

Key in ignition and car running:

First Headlight Switch Position -

- Headlights pop up, but don't illuminate
- Parking, rear, side marker, license, and dash lights are ON

Second Headlight Switch Position: Same as first position, but headlights do illuminate

BACK to First Switch Position: Headlights stop illuminating, but still up. All other lights are still on.

Back to "Off": Headlights remain up and only the dash and rear license plate lights remain on. They stay on until I manually retract the headlights

I hope that helps.

Thanks!

And Yes, "65sprint." So far, it is a fun car and I really like the looks of this model with it's appealing color scheme.

Hi Tommy,

That's not how the popups SHOULD behave ( or the light switch ).

A brilliant troubleshoother for the whole enchilada can be found here:

http://944foot2thefloor.blogspot.com/p/tutorials.html

Go to Body/Interior and follow

6. Headlight electronics overhaul
and
7. Headlight mechanism overhaul.

That should get you sorted!

Eliza,

Thanks so much for your help and that link. I'm going to start by getting out an old toothbrush and some Q-Tips and degrease and re-grease the moving parts and look for any obstruction. Hopefully, I won't have to delve further. Though, I do enjoy figuring things out to a happy remedy.

Thanks again!

Tommy
