Stamped on top of the RH strut tower or stamped into the bulkhead in front of the battery (on LHD cars), depending on the year, not sure of date of changeover.

My 1980 931 has a VIN plate on the driver's (L) side A-pillar, and a sticker in the door jab on the same side. I've also found it stamped on the strut tower, and I think one or two other places. Shouldn't be hard to find, unless it's been tampered with.
