Hey just wanted to get everyone's thoughts on what the essential "mini tool kit" would be? aside from the basic 10 13 17mm wrenches.

A short cable prepared for jumping the fuel relay is always good to have and take no space

good one, but I already have a switch wired into the relay to manually turn on the pump, and I advise everyone one else to have already done this.

Spare fuses and bulbs
Jump Leads
Spanners
Basic socket set
Screw drivers
Zip ties
Duct Tape

That is enough to sort out basic problems. How far do you go? Better to maintain your car regularly and catch potential problems early.

On top of zip-ties, some basic tools like mentioned above, i think the best thing to do before taking your old Porsche for a long drive is to drive it every day or almost every day one-two weeks before your trip. Chances are that if something is going to give in it will do it in those days and you'll be around home when that happens. Also if you drive a modern comfy car daily, those days driving the 924 before the big trip will help you re-adjust your expectations to the 924 standard.

I think that never fails is law of nature, whatever tool you don't bring is the one you will need

I have a small bag, a toilet bag actually, that contains:
*a set of spanners 10-19
*a few common sockets in 3/8" + spark plug socket, wheel lug, rear axle socket.
*Extendable 3/8" ratchet + extensions
*screwdriver with a set of bits
*knife
*combination pliers
*probably something more that I don't remember.

Depending on if you carry a spare or not, a set of tire plugs to fix a flat tire might come in handy.
In my track car I throw in a jack and an impact gun too.

Probably easier to have a good insurance so someone can come and get you.... But its nice to sort things out by yourself!

Every single one of my cars has a $10 beam torque wrench for tightening lug nuts as well as 2 clean ratchet straps.

In 2016, i did a 5000Km trip with my two 924 turbos, at the same time, a friend drove the other...and i forgot the tools and the spare wheel i prepared at home...realised only about 1000km into the trip so just went ahead.

To be honest, I daily my 924 in fair weather, close to half the year. It ruins my standard for my other car, even though it is more comfortable, more powerful, more features, etc... I would drive it year round if I could!

I find 924s extremely comfortable..
The laid back seating position, soft seats, reach of the wheel and stick, old school ride quality..
Extremely highway comfortable..

I’ve carried tons of tools with me but other than doing things purposefully on the road they have never saved me..

I’ve been towed back 2 times blowing my oil filter seal.. Likely because of the vibrations from overspooling my turbo so much, until I put a safety lock on my filter so it can’t vibrate loose..

I’ve limped back 2 times once from blowing a big hole in a boost pipe (common part), and another time from loosing my alternator exciter circuit causing me low voltage and making my gauges read crazy (connector came loose)..

All I could have fixed on the road I suppose if I was too far away with simple things from any auto parts store..


Best road tool IMO?
A VISA card probably..

I will add electrical tape and some insulated wire for electrical repairs and some bailing wire for mechanical repairs. Also a vice grip pliers, a tube of hand cleaner and some rags.

It's all relative, having driven cross country in various old Triumphs and Austin-Healeys, the 924 is pretty comfortable.

Yes, my mistake, the 924 is still very comfortable in its original form and compared to most normal cars.
For me its different as my 924 is a lot stiffer than the original setup and and my exhaust is quite loud...and my daily is a vw touareg on air bags.
