I got mine fried relay fixed and upgraded so now it should prime fuel pump for 1-2 seconds after power is on - turn the key to on position... and should work after engine crank.
I had to test in now in car but it seems to work fine. And I can confirm that KAE relay doesn't have prime pump on function ... there's to simple board inside which only allows relay work if it gets signal from coil.
I post some more photos etc when I test it.

I read the thread and ache. I am having the same problem with a 1979 924. When wired at 12v on 15 with earth on 31, the relay does nothing. Ticking 12v on pin 1 does nothing. When I open the relay and touch the PCB past the 47 kOhm resistor following pin 1, the relay closes for half a second, so the 555 timer chip and the relay itself are fine. The 47 kOhm resistor shows 47 kOhms. I am at a loss. Does anyone have any wisdom on this? Or, a spare relay?

BTW, jumpered 87-30 turns the pumps constantly when I connect the battery and the car starts.

Thanks for reading and for keeping up the enthusiasm for old wrecks

I found 2 - Bosch relays in the glove compartment of my car that I don't think fit it - but not sure yet. A Porsche expert says they are FPR's for 79 and earlier 931.

Haven't tested yet as I'm not quite sure what terminals 15, 31 and 31b get what voltage to work - they go to a transistor in the relay, and each has an external 16a fuse on the top of the relay. They both have the same pin-outs and schematic printed on them.

I think 31 is to ground.

One is an 896321 and the other is 89 6494. Once I verify they do not go in my car, I'm willing to pass them on. If they are NLA, I'd want a little something for them, maybe half of what they are worth.

db,

is your car a MY 1979 or 1980? If 1980, you need a 433906059 FPR ( or 3.300.300 from KAE or similar ). MY 1979 needs a different one IMO, it should have its own fuse.

Is it the priming that doesn't work, or doesn't your car start with the relay you have?

Just ticking pin 1 won't do, the relay expects a pulse from the neg. side of the coil. The wire is the same that hopefully makes your tach bounce slightly while cranking.

Eliza

EDIT: Checking PET shows FPR 433906059 for MY 1979 as well. The switch from the older one was made in MY 1978.
