You can cut and weld the existing shifter to change the pivot point distance to reduce the throw and retain existing gear knob.

If it's a later Audi Transaxle a 944 short shifter will work. Not for the snailshell though

The guy is in Germany and posted in turbo section. So one can assume its G31 and not Audi box? ....... RoW never had the Audi box

Hmmm......the '80 931 uses a 911 tranny, same as in the 914's.

Would the cut/shorten/weld trick work on its shifter?

If so, I can pass it on to my many 914 friends too.
