|
|
My MC is leaking, and New MCs are crazy price...So Im debating what my other options are.
Now I can get a Mercedes MC (steel version of 944 MC) for $40 (I used one of these on my 951)
I see rebuild kits for the factory MC, for $80 But I haven't read many reports on how these worked out.
Plus I intend to upgrade to 951 brakes.
I dont want to completely re run new brake lines, but rearranging lines at the MC wouldn't be that big of a deal.
has anyone here done either? _________________ It was either this or a giant box of legos |

Well FWIW, I have been looking at alternative MC's
Heres a list of older audi ATE 23mm:
Audi - 100 5 cyl 89 - 91 23.8mm,
Audi - 5000, fwd non-turbo 84-88 23.8mm,
Audi - 200 89 -91 25.4mm,
Audi - 90, Quattro 20V 90-92 25.4mm
also
VW Vanagon 1980 thru 1991 23.8mm
Some of these I have found for under $30
Now Some of them have ports for the Brake light switch (which 81+ 924 don't have) so I can use that port for the 3rd brake line. _________________ It was either this or a giant box of legos |

Ok So the route im taking is to install a 944 MC.
you can get them for $38 for the "mercedes" version
see here

the rearranging of the brake lines really wouldn't be that difficult. Will be better for the upgrade to bigger brakes also, Since I need to fix my firewall cracking, might as well do it all at once.
The rear brakes Will be simple, by simply tying them together at the L junction under the car.
the front driver side brake doesn't need to be messed with.
I will need to make a new line for the Passenger (right) side front, but
using this double flaring tool: only$27 OEM Tools 24364 Brake Repair/Brake Flaring Tool
and tube bending tool, it will be pretty cheap and easy, also 5ft of brake line is only $8! _________________ It was either this or a giant box of legos |

I have the 23.8mm version and used a rebuild kit from Porsche, think it was like 68 euro's, includes the cylinders.
Works fine. But before you purchase it, make sure there's no corrosion / pitting inside of your cylinder, because at that point rebuilding doesn't make sense anymore. |

I have an Eastwood flaring tool that does the bubble flares well. Heading toward Idaho Friday, will be in Frisco on Friday afternoon about 3pm if you want to borrow it. I'm afraid shipping it would cost about $25 these days. PM if want to meet. _________________ Mike
