Went to BTR today and picked up my steering wheel from their wizard seamstress Oksana. She cleaned and stretched the old leather, and rewrapped and stitched it. Looks awesome and feels good to have the original wheel back on the car! Fixing up the interior is going to be a slippery slope. I need to recover the shifter now.. and clearly the carpets need a refresh.. when does it end??

I also managed to find an Eaton supercharger from an 02 Mini Cooper S on local marketplace for a good deal -- my buddy snagged it for me a couple months back and I picked it up on my way home today. I am hopeful that later this year when morghen's kit is ready I can get this installed.

Man that a nice re-stich of that wheel. Love that place!

Yeah! I am definitely going to be going to her again with other auto interior stuff. I am contemplating taking the sport seats from the 931 and having them covered with the Weissach cloth.. Depends on how serious I get w/ the 931 as a track build. Right now just a thought among many...

So last weekend I did the following:

* re-affix odometer gear
* replace speedometer cable
* only944 tail light mod
* only944 hatch pin seats

Speedo cable was a total pain in the butt, because a) under dash and b) two part cable with the box in between. I replaced it with a single piece cable and used a grommet I had laying around to route it properly. Now my speedometer needle does not bounce which it did the last several years before it broke and I can see how fast I'm going again.

I *love* the hatch pin seats. It was the simplest thing to do, and no more squeaking. Definitely would recommend if you've never touched your hatch pin receivers, take a look and I bet you'll find the old rubber things are broken down and clogging the drain tubes there..

Things on my TODO list include:

* still working on the 931 transmission. 2nd gear is not going to fix itself...
* 924 needs bleeding brakes and adjusting the drums

I have so much to do to the 931 still aside from transmission... water pump gasket, front suspension, rebuild CV axles, brake lines, clutch cylinders..

I have got the Koni rear shocks on, and got the new rubber mounted yesterday, the tires really stick, and also ride better than the ten year old tires that were on the car.

New quality tires, shocks and don't forget the rubber bushing renewal all around the chassis is far too much underestimated. Should be done all together to revolutionise the feel of a 40yr old car......of which many chassis components will be 40yrs old......

Thanks, I have checked the car on a lift and on the road. Nothing looks or feels too bad, but the bushings are definitely not new or newish and will get attention soon.

First Autocross with the 924S tomorrow. It is through my old British car club, but a lot of people run Miatas.

I got some back seat end stop plugs (the thing which holds them in place against the pillar brackets, keeping them from rattling) and managed to get one of them in. One side bracket on mine is bent far in enough to get stuck on the bracket every time -- I might have to remove the seat top and bend it out a bit before I can get the other plug in place.

I picked up some brown RIT dye intended for synthetic fibers with the idea of seeing how a dye job will hold on the stock carpet. All the reports I can find are with the plain dye, not the mix intended for synthetic. I will be testing that out at some point this weekend and report back about it.

Also picked up a new shift boot (inner and outer) from Only944 as well as their shift linkage upgrade. Will possibly get to that this weekend as well. I have been working on my wife's 63 beetle though primarily lately, so who knows.

Most days I will just settle for simply driving the 924. It's always a glorious experience.

Watching Sean's latest video though has me thinking about tearing apart all the electric motors in the car (wiper and windows) and re-greasing them. My windows are sooo SLOOWWWWWW....

I think my windows were slow due to my old window switches..

I got tired of trying to rebuild my window switches after the 10th time of tearing them down and finally bought new ones..
Wow.. Night and day difference..

Had a new windshield put in, then since I had the day off got to the long put off task of adjusting the door handle so it would open the door with a little less effort and fixing a rattle in the same door (drivers). The hardest part was getting the door handle off, I knew there was a screw somewhere, but couldn't find it. All the videos and instructions kind of skipped over the part about popping out the inner cup to get to the screw.

I was more worried about breaking 30 plus year old plastic than getting things fixed. I didn't break anything, adjusted the door handle linkage per instructions, and found the source of the ratlle. The bottom of the window track was not screwed down. This worked out well, as it was easy to push out of the way to adjust the door linkage, then I put a slightly oversized screw to hold the track in.

Only downside is the roads iced up so no test drive.

Not actually on my car, but on my friends car. Since Dan's trigger wheel is unavailable I managed to create my own kit:

It's very strange, but clearance to the oil pump is very tight:

Very nice, i'm also thinking of including a way of mounting a toothed gear on my SC kit pulley.
