After a great night of trying to remove my snail shell in the rain I have become rather salty. I have owned about a dozen 924s and removed many Audi boxes, this was my first snail shell extraction and was expecting it to be way easier..... why is it designed so poorly. This is got to be one of the most asinine designs ever.
Had to rant as the rain really made this much more annoying. But why the hell would they not put a access panel and capture nuts on the torque tube. I’m going to cut a hole in the floor in the morning. My car only has 30k on it and I’m positive the gearbox has never been out so all the bolts were extremely stuck which made it way more fun. _________________ ive saved alot of 924's

Hayes and I have both cut an access panel between the two rear seats to get to the hardwear on the top front of the tranny. Porsche should have done it. _________________ 1979 924 NA race car

Those top two bolts connecting the torque tube to the end of the trans are THE WORST. I am wrapping up my fix of my gearbox and will be cutting an access hole to reinstall this week.
That said, it's easy enough to maneuver due to it being pretty light weight once you are able to get the bolts out. I had quite a bit of up and down whatever 5-6 inches of travel I had and rocking back and forth while removing...
@Fifty -- did you make a 911-style shift coupler cover that screws back into place, or hinge it? _________________ 1980 Porsche 931

I just cut a piece out and replaced it with a larger piece if aluminum sheet that I screwed on with sheet metal screws. _________________ 1979 924 NA race car
