Hey guys, been a while since I've posted anything and that's mostly cause I haven't had anything of note to post. Until now...

This Sunday I met up with a delightful air-cooled VW fan. Why would I do that, you ask? Well it's because he happened to have an S1 931 in his possession that he happened to steal the brakes and hubs off of. After he'd taken what he wanted, he had a dilemma. How do you get rid of a non rolling car you have no desire to strip and part out yourself?

Answer, you find a mild hoarder with a serious affliction like me.

So I brought home a parts car.

Of course, that's all fine and dandy but none of this is really living up to that title there. Well of all the things that I could have wanted to get out of this I was wholly unprepared for this ↓.

Yup, that's an original silver Saratoga top. I was on the fence before I saw this heap but I knew I had to have it when I saw it.

Anyway, that's it. I never thought I'd see one of these in person let alone own one even though the bronze are in reproduction now. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to strip this thing to the shell.

Green tartan interior, you don't see that on a Civic.

And how perfect that it's a twin of your other 931! Nice find!

It does look that way in the image doesn't it. I'm fairly certain that it's due to the completely shot weather stripping allowing it to get closer to the front and leaving that hairline gap at the back. I assure you it does fit correctly.

Yes, they seem to have been a popular colour in this region as this is the 4th I've seen including my catalyst car.

Well, that's quite the story. Quite the boring, uninteresting, yawn inducing story. So i'm not going to tell it. BTW I've got an NA hood with your name all over it.

Yeah, Nick has got the right of it there. This car currently wears the four lug set up that I pulled out of the red car that donated it's 5 speed transaxle to gramps. Drums on the rear, just like every other one out there.

The interior is okay, i'll have pics up by the weekend for all to see.

As I dismantle this poor soul to provide future life for its siblings I have time to reflect on the life that this car has lived. I can tell that someone in this twofah's history appreciated it. This is apparent by the cleanliness of the interior and the turbo is a red tag unit so someone had it rebuilt.

However it seems as though later in it's life it fell into the hands of someone less mechanically inclined and more interested in appearance. Walmart double bladed wipers and paint sanded off of the window trim to be shiny was my first indicator but what sealed it was below.

Yup the fuel filter was on backwards. Thats a pretty simple mistake and easily correctable. Of course the next thing really got me, literally. The oil wasn't just oil, it was partially fuel and when I say partially I mean like half and half. It's a good thing these engines have a large drain plug otherwise the resulting pressure would have likely missed the catch can all together...

Anyway more pictures to come as I was far too focused on getting things taken off.

Not after puking its guts out on the shop floor like this.

I'm super excited as the cam and follwers look good. I have a use for this already.

Also the valves look good albeit a bit carboned up.

And finally, the door cards are the best part of the interior.

I've decided I'm just going to drop the engine, torque tube, torsionbar carrier and transaxle out as a unit as that seems like the easiest solution being that the body is on a hoist already. If any one has any suggestions or reasons why I shouldn't do that, speak now or forever hold your peace.

Clean door cards. So you are stripping is for parts. Lots of good parts to support your other cars?
