Special Characters now causing empty previews???

Recently, I've noticed that using any kind of special characters, like the degree symbol, the Euro symbol, the great british pound symbol, and many accents causes an "empty post" when using preview. If you post, the post shows up OK, but if you preview, it shows up empty. I don't recall this happening before. Has something changed with the core underlying phpBB code that is preventing the use of special characters in previews?
