Pardon my noobish-ness but I've never worked on drum brakes before this car. So I can adjust the rear drums without having to remove the axle nut? _________________ 924, 82, 5 speed, dark red, 500 dollar special.

I've got the Haynes, is that good enough? What would you recommend? _________________ 924, 82, 5 speed, dark red, 500 dollar special.

Perhaps reading the section on Brakes? _________________ Stefan

Don't remove nut. Shoes adjust from the backside of the backing plate. Lay on the ground under the rear bumper, look at the backside of backing plate, there are four holes, or maybe you still have the rubber plugs in them.
Hardest part is figuring which way to turn them to tighten. Once that is figured out, I put an arrow next to each one to make the next time easier. _________________ 1977 924na BlackSeaRD.com Torque Tube SuperBearings, Xenon air dam, 200# Weltmeister springs, Bursch header, 944 exhaust, Audi throttle body |

My attempt to adjust the drum brakes failed horribly when the adjusting "gear" was rusted solid. Therefore I couldn't tell which one of the gears was the right one. *sigh* this car is difficult sometimes. _________________ 924, 82, 5 speed, dark red, 500 dollar special.
