Thanks Andre. Please send pics of what you have. I was thinking I could get the correct fabric, but not the original piping.
Looks like the german description of our SE's says the cars came with a "plakatte", which was translated into english as "plaque." It should have been described as a medallion? So there is no plaque? As in a wooden 8" x 12" plaque.
That same german description said our cars had the 4 spoke steering wheel from the later 944's.
Still working on the salesmen's fact book........

No problem - I'll take some pics and post them. The correct translation for the plaque is more like "Medallie" or medal - not "Plakette" (with an "e"). My understanding is that all SE's including the 911's and the 944's came with this medal (as seen in the pics posted by Paul) and I'm not aware of a wooden plaque or a 4-spoke steering wheel.

Digging up historical facts is all fine and dandy but my suggestion to you - drive her and enjoy!

Quasi,
what's the deal with the seats?
How much for the medallion(s)?

The car in your pics has a 3-spoke steering wheel and a cassette console?

Andre',
I've been racing these cars since 2003 so yes, I'm enjoying the driving. But, I'm getting alot of enjoyment in making this special model correct/complete as possible.
I put the car thru a heat cycle after the oil cooler seals. I'll flush the cooling system one more time. It's about ready to drive. Gotta install a thermostat and hang up the P/S pump, etc.
Gotta put a seat back in too. Found about $4.00 in change under the seats and carpet! Good times.......

Those carpets looks lovely in dark red/wine, not so sure about the seat colours but then I have always preferred leather !!

First, thanks to Paul, Harm, Andre', Rasta, Quasi for the help so far. I really appreciate it.
Secondly, I was wrong about the power hatch release! This car, and I believe, the rest of the cars have a power hatch release.

I still need the burgundy carpet piece that surrounds the shifter - part # 477.863.749.4JR. It should have no hole for the sunroof switch (sunroof delete).

OK, so just ordered a correct hand crank for the windows from Germany.
Got the bad shifter lever out (stripped M8 bolt fought me hard).
New lever, bushing, and steel base back in with the correct shifter handle now.
Removed the rest of the Boom-boom stereo crap wiring and the "period correct" cell phone and it's wiring.
Removed the bling-bling carbon fiber veneer from around all the gauges.
Cleaned, reassembled the complete passenger door panel with all the right parts. Looks great now!

I still have some salami, cheese and Sam Adams left over from working on this car till late last night, so might do it again tonight.
Thanks again, guys.

Quasi, how much for the medallion?

Should be able to help you with a piece of burgandy carpet. Also still have a center console including the shifter surround from my old SE that I parted out 2 years ago. Send me a PM if interested.

Timmay – Congrats on acquiring your ’88 SE. I purchased one in 2006 and use it as my daily driver. The North American version of the vehicle (option code 756) is often called a “lightweight” as it deleted common features such as power windows, power locks, sunroof, center console and the passenger door mirror. Features on my car include the 030 Sport Suspension (with stiffer “red dot” front springs, Koni shocks, 23mm (front) and 20mm (rear) anti-roll bars and 24.5mm rear torsion bars), power brakes, 15x7 inch “Phone Dial” wheels (rear only) and a power rear hatch release. Additional options on my SE include air conditioning, power steering and rear wheel splash guards. I replaced the 3-spoke steering wheel with the 4-spoke sport wheel which also has the extended hub feature. This combination added much needed clearance between the steering wheel and seat (see pictures). I also replaced the original radio/cassette unit with a Bluetooth unit which gives me voice calling as well as current media capabilities. My car is otherwise original and has spent its entire life in weather-friendly Atlanta, GA. Enjoy the ride!

Thanks, Ron. The sales brochure I have says these cars came with 16" wheels, but you're the second guy who has 6's and 7's x 15 like the euro version had.

I believe the sales brochure was printed before Porsche decided to take a cheaper route going with the 7x15's in the rear instead of 16 inch forged alloys on all four corners. Back in the 80's the currency exchange rate was very bad due to the weak dollar. Porsche may have de-contented the North American cars to keep the price as low as possible in the US. I believe that the European 924 special edition (option code 755) had the aluminum front suspension A-arms from the 944 whereas the North American version retained the stamped steel A-arms from the earlier 924's. A simple matter of economics. Don't worry about the A-arms. Our steel ones are cheaper and easier to work with.

Ok, so....not being satisfied completely with the he-said, she-said bits and pieces of data (As with the fun research I conducted on the 924 Martini paint code)... here's some factory stuff on the 924S SE. These are the pages involving the 924S and 924S SE from the 1988 salesmen's factbook. You can see what the cars came with STANDARD, and then what it was possible to have as well. I'll be guided with what was typed onto my own build code decal at the rear of the car.

Tough to read (hit the control key and the + key to enlarge) BUT the picture shows 16 wheels and the chart shows 16 inch wheels as standard on the SE.
