I know it's been quite a while since I've made any meaningful contribution to this forum so here I am again. This may hurt some people here but my Porsche wasn't old enough or simple enough for me so I bought a 1972 Datsun 240Z that needs alot of work and love.

And now if you haven't fallen asleep looking at something that doesn't come from Stuttgart I have good news! My 924 has been getting some work too. Recently I tore apart the other transaxle I picked up so I can rebuild it. Shout out to Dan and the awesome service he provides to us on his site for those harder to find bits.

I had an issue with a bearing and managed to bend the cage for the rollers then when I rattled the nut off the back of the input shaft to pull that bearing the one on that end "exploded" on me . Suffice to say Porsche wanted $258.00 for the one that exploded and couldn't get the other one. Luckily I the stamping #s were good and I managed to source them on Amazon of all places. Once I get them she'll go back together and will shift like new.

Green tartan interior, you don't see that on a Civic.

We had a fully restored 240Z at our restaurant a couple of summers ago. It was beautiful, he had a problem with it, and stored it at our place for a couple of days.

Also, there are 3 early 80s Z-cars, the 280s I believe, in the junkyard at Prescott, AZ. They are rust free, so if there are any parts you need let me know. No idea of inter-year compatibility, though.

I love Z-cars. Biodegradable automotives - great stuff. My brother has a 1976 280Z that he'd be happy to part with. It runs but hasn't gone anywhere for a very long time. As Dave said, if you need parts, let me know. The car's near Edmontown.

I'm a parts guy at a Nissan dealership. My boss restored his 1970 240 and still has some left over parts. I'll have him make a list and shoot you a PM.

Nice. Gotta love those L-series motors. Damned tough and they make a great noise.

I also agree with the 6 side draft solution for induction.

In a bit of a tenuous link, the L-series design was repatriated from Mercedes after WWII and given to the Japanese to rebuild their auto industry.

Also, someone on here once mentioned that the EA831 used in the Audi 100LS and the 924 was originally designed by Mercedes for Audi, but I've not seen anything concrete to prove that.

That would be great, although the body needs work first and unlike the 924 parts for the 240 seem to be oozing out of every crevace of the net.

Serious envy there, we never got the Euro/World Escorts here in Canada and I love the hell out of them.

No can do, EFI will not touch this car. Well atleast not in the foreseeable future. Triple Webers yes but they will use the good old venturi method of atomizing fuel.

Ha, biodegradeable is the truth! Had a '78 280Z with a body and frame that literally melted away in the salt of Minnesota winters after 100k. My Honda Accord from the '80 did the same thing. Wish manufacturers had caught onto building bodies to match their motors sooner. I have an eight year old A4 with eight winters on it and not a speck of rust.

Or you know, your guvment could stop destroying the environment and your cars, etc. by pouring salt on everything whenever the temp drops low enough to cause their noses to run.

yep those cage bearings are xe...
whilst you're at it check the shift guides for wear on the dogs and the alignment of the double idler gear on first gear engagement, a thicker shim will correct the alignment so that it engages the gears properly,
I've seen brilliant 2jz engine conversions on the 240 chassis...
