My 1980 931 has a loud squealing sound when the dump valve releases pressure; Normal?

Nope. Seems more likely to be coming from somewhere else. . .you sure it's the recirc valve?

If it is from the recirc valve, maybe it stucks halfway. I had a problem where the old gasket in the valve just melted and smered along the walls of the valve piston. Made the valve stuck open, no sound though but no boost either. Solved by buying a new gasket from porsche.

It only squeals toward the top of the boost range, then stops as soon as you let off. It just started over the weekend.

Any chance it's a loose/leaky wastegate control line?
They're known to make a high pitched sound..

This turned out to be a loose connect at the bottom junction of the boost tube. Tightened the two bolts, now its fine.

Thanks,
