They're ground wires. Hook 'em onto any handy bolt on the intake manifold. I recall I have a few on the bracket holding the fuel line to the CSV.

Brown is pretty much invariably a ground. _________________ Vaughan Scott

Also check there is a big copper ground strap. I remembered that later. Mine has (for some reason) two, both going from different points on the intake manifold to the body.

Uhhh... the thermostat is a purely mechanical device, on all cars. Perhaps you mean the thermo-time switch?? _________________ Vaughan Scott

These sit in the flange on the back of the head.
TTS wires (brown connector):
—Red/White
—Green/White
Temp sender VDO 120°C, flathead connection:
—Blue/Yellow
Next to the flange sits the Oil Pressure Switch:
-G—Blue/White
-Wk—Blue/Black

temp sender screws into the intake side of the coolant flange at the back of the head (small brass sensor 10mm with flat round connection that a female spade slots on to)
thermo time switch (TTS) is the sensor that screws into the bottom of the coolant flange
