Don't really know what it's causing exactly, but when I wiggled the leads my car started running better. I've had a bunch of little electrical problems from corrosion. I'd like to spruce up the leads, but how do I get the thing off? do I have to drop the motor down?????

Looking into taking down the TTS: PITA.
If you have the original wire harness under the hood, its connected pretty solid.
The electrical connections are held in place by a thin but strong wire clip that you'll
have to prey out with a small screwdriver… Not easy, espacially when its hard to
get a glimpse of what you're doing between the back of the head and the firewall.

Try aproaching it from underneath the car: Worked for me several times.
Also for the oil pressure switch that sits next to it.
Not easy, but at least I could see what I was doing. (If the J-pipe heatshields etc. are removed… But you probably don't use those I guess)

Another option would be to take the flange off: Two bolts to get at and replacing a gasket and coolant.

You can practice how to undo these electrical connections on the AAV, CSV and WUR since they
hook up the same way (…if it wasn't replaced by something else between1977 and now).

BTW. Your diagnoses might be in a different area, like; “is the engine block making a good ground?”
—Strap an extra cable from the engine over toward the firewall (near the battery) and see if it changes the engines mood.

HTH
Regards, Harm.

I had to replace this connector but the problem is that it doesnt fit

It fits on all the other items mentioned but not this part and being in a place that you cant see it makes it very difficult.

From your picture, do you still have the part out and if so what is the part number just in case someone at some stage has replace the part with a dodgy one.

Ground was one of the first things I tried after reading through the tech section. I took three sets of jumper cables and did engine body battery in every combination possible.

This is basically it though:

I start the car cold:
1500rpm then die 3 times

4th time runs with a low rough idle

I push the gas car dies for about 30 seconds after starting

after 30 seconds it bogs when giving it gas but doesn't die

i rev it a little until it picks up and smooths out

when warm it has a fair amount of power and runs ok but has an irregular miss non cylinder specific.

When checking for spark I noticed that half the time it would look strong and the other half it was hard to see it was so light. But that could all be in my imagination.

Ignition box: cleaned and reseated the plug and ground

bypassed the ignition resistor as one of those what the heck why not moments even though I didn't think for a second it was the problem.

tested the coil

replaced plugs, wires, cap, and rotor

replaced cold start valve and aux air valve with ones from a great running cold start problem free 82 924.

pulled cleaned and tested the egr, it's fine

Checked compression, it's fine

Checked every inch of wire and available plugs and fuses....

..................................................................................... It looks really nice under the hood now at least with everything I've taken off, cleaned, and rewired.

Sorry, I've never OWNED anything that made me feel like ranting so much.

Hi Allen, just the spare parts that I moved from the desk into a drawer.
It all fits and am able to exchange connectors between all four K-Jet components.
Sounds to me that you have an exotic TTS down there at the back of the head.

022 906 231 is on all the connectors, (…some brown ones say “:AMP”)
025 906 231 is a replacement that sits on other harnesses ends,
fits as well but the clip ‘klicks’ in differently …easier.

Scroll down to ‘Verschiedene Stecker’, at the pictured brown connector.
Next to it you'll find several suppliers and partnumbers.
Hope That Helps Australia

Oops, …allright; you really should look into the CVS and the TTS connection/wiring. It could cure the cold start problem.
Was it possible to exchange the electronic distributor as well? Since you have the non cylinder specific irregular mis…
Good luck.

I replaced all the female connectors in the cable harness
to
AAV
TTS
WUR
CVS

with new connectors.
They are called Junior Timer Connectors, and bought them here:
http://www.polevolt.co.uk/acatalog/info_20900_1.html
Unfortunately, they only come in black, not in the original blue, but hey.
The owner is a very nice guy and always helpful on the phone.

You have to order separately
-housing
-terminals
-rubber boot

And you need a small crimping tool for unisolated terminals
The new ones really fitted snugly, as opposed to the wiggly old ones.

here you can look up the Bosch partnumber for the TTS
http://www.bosch-automotive-catalog.com/public/catalog/products?p_p_id=BoschWSRP&p_p_lifecycle=0&p_p_state=normal&p_p_mode=view&p_p_col_id=column-1&p_p_col_count=1&_BoschWSRP_wsrp-navigationalState=%2FWFS%2FAAGLOBAL-AA-Catalog-Site%2Fen_NL%2F-%2FEUR%2FViewSearchVehicle-Start%3Bpgid%3DD41D8CD98F00B204E9800998ECF8RdCzXsn8%3Bsid%3DTpGIsO9fOidJpaJwzSAESuDUbj5LV8_wjXY%3D%3FSelectedMenuItem%3DSearchVehicle&_BoschWSRP_proxyportlet-remoteInvocation=true

Thanks Duncan: Nice links!

Allen, here is what you could be reading on the six sides of the TTS.

My '82 TTS: 0280130214 35°C 8sec 12V 40W 043906163A BOSCH Germany 5.78

An '81 TTS: 0280130214 35°C 8sec 12V 40W 043906163A BOSCH Germany 1.83

By now I have four engine harnesses for the CIS and two of them are missing the original TTS connection because some PO cut the wires…
Common problem?
Cheerio.
