now the proud surrogate mom of this lil fella, who I've named Bronx.
found by my wifes collegue at their plant nursery, and at the speed this guy runs think he may have just strayed to far from his folks.
Apparently the breed which is Wood Duck have both parents rear young'ns.
Had him 3 days now and he's eating and drinking well, still on duck starter food as I'm assuming he's around the 1/2 week old, just starting to grow some tail feathers / no wing feathers yet.
I've also been researching how old he has to be before I can release him back into the wild too... but it's a bit inconclusive... 4 weeks on once all their feathers are grown. The one thing I need to find out is if he needs to socialise with other ducks before being released. His natural instinct to go foraging for food is there but I don't want him to be too dependant on me for care, he's still a bit sooky at times, I figure this is natural for a newborn...
So anyone got experince with wild ducks?
Stu

Yep. Taste just like chicken Arr arr
JK of course. There's a pretty good bird rescue in these parts. I can put you in touch if you need some advice. I'm sure they'd help out if you gave them a quick call. PM and I'll send you the number... |

| Don't feed it medicated food. In other words don't feed it chick starter found at the local farm store or you will kill it. Must use some type of wild game specific food. |
