The dude sent me some pics and the car looks pretty clean. Paint looks good, intyerior looks good.
I may take a look at it this weekend.
If the car is straight what would you guys offer the seller?
800 maybe?

I understand now that you're actually after a project car. In that case, at first glance, that one doesn't look like the worst candidate I've seen. But be aware, I can't stress this enough, digital camera pic's are absolutely notorious for hiding a multitude of sins. I have rushed out to look at cars that appeared to be in excellent shape in pictures, only to be disappointed to find rust, fading paint, chips, scratches, dents, rips, tears, missing trim... in one case an eight inch long, two inch wide gash torn into the lower front fender (what the f*** did that I'll never know )... that are hidden by crafty angles and low resolution. I appreciate that you're ultimately after a track car and the odd interior/exterior blemish is probably of no consequence to you. Just wanted to prepare you.
EDIT: Oh, and although it'll be no surprise to anyone experienced with such things, ad's on craigslist tend to be, let's say, "economical" with the truth. I've been to look at several cars advertised on craigslist and if the sellers weren't outright lying, at the very least they were, um, "misrepresenting" the car. Could be just a car thing, perhaps just a local phenomenon, then again, maybe I'm just unlucky. But it happened without fail. *rant over*
Also, it's a non-runner. Unless there were exceptional circumstances, like I needed it as a parts car or I knew the car and knew exactly what was wrong with it, that puts its value at exactly zero in my book. At a stretch, maybe as much as wrecker/breaker would give to take it as scrap (If they do that there? Back home, depending on the car, a wrecker/breaker might give you a couple of hundred bucks for it, maybe). With a non-runner it's just very difficult to properly evaluate the condition of the car. You can take an educated guess but until you fire that engine, run it through the gears and throw it through a couple of corners, you really don't know exactly what you're in for, IMHO.
But I think you'll probably know as soon as you see it what you're comfortable paying for it. You work on cars and you've perused this 'board. Once you know what you're looking at, you'll probably form a reasonable idea what you're in for regarding time and money. _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

if you can get the car for under 800 i think it would be a good buy since it is a later car. You should get a a 2.0 liter 924 and go 944 spec racing. _________________ 1977 924 euro spec and no emissions equip |

No 2.0l in 944 spec only the 2.5l 944/924s cars.

But then a 2.0l 924 would be competitive in time trials/performance touring and possibly gts1.

And bingo! There we have it, a classic example of a seller at the very least misrepresenting what the car is but more likely just flat out lying...
That is not a German-delivered car, as the ad is quite obviously implying. It has the side markers and a MPH speedo. Yes, it was made in Germany. All 924's are made in Germany _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

Looked at the car today. Owner is a older gentleman that has owned the car since 94. He spent some time over seas and lost interest in the car and has picked up another project so the 924 is up for sale.
The clutch and pilot bearing where recently replaced right before the fuel pump stopped working. He alredy repalced the relay and then applied 12v to the pump and it didnt run.
He has a few box's full of parts. Mostly stuff like filters, spare relays, center caps and bolt caps.
A/C was recently rebuilt along with the generator. Under the hood is pretty clean and doesnt appear to have been tampered with.
The exhasut is out right now. I assume from replacing the clutch.
He will be out of town untill the 4th so I have some time to think it over and keep looking to see if anything else pops up.
Might offer him 800. At 800 it would be a really nice car after a few hours of work.
