I just bought my first Porsche yesterday. It is a junker, but runs good. The guy was driving and the hood came unlatched and flew up. The hood is bent up badly, but probally can be hammered out to work until I begin the new paint job and just buy a new hood. The windshield is also craked, but I am having it replaced this week. Other then that the car has taken and beating and is still runnin' strong. The interior is in horrible condition, so thats where I'm going to start restoring it. The front seats are being a bitch. First off, I can't slide them up at all, so its a real pain to push in the clutch pedal. Sencondly, the backs will not stay up either. I know nothing about these cars, or what can be done with them. What would you reccomend? Getting a new pair of seats? Ripping mine apart and restoring them? Does anyone sell re-covering kits for the seats?

I am also pretty sure the throw-out bearing is going out on the car. What would you reccomend, just rebuilding the clutch completely or just replace the bearing?

When I go out in the morning to start it up, it does start right up. But if I stall it, or shut it off and try to start it up again soon, it doesn't like to start. If I push the gas pedal to the floor, it starts right up. Any ideas on what is wrong here?

Shift points, what are they? I guess that pretty much says it all. What RPM is good for launching and shifting. (BTW, this is my first manual tranny car, so I'm not to experienced, thats why I ask)

OD and trip meter have quit, so I'm a little concerned how far I can go on a tank of gas. What kinda gas milage can I expect with this car. (5 spd. 81 924, non-turbo)

On the center console there are 3 little rocker switchs, and an empty hole for another one. What are they? All the lettering have been rubbed off, and I haven't a clue as to what they do.

There is a black toggle switch on the drivers side of the center console, just above the heat/ac controles. It seems to controle a fan under a vent in the rear center of the battery compartment up front. What is this for?

On the rear hatch, the dummy who owned it before me drilled out the lock cylinder. From the inside I can turn the little plate that is connected to each latch, but the driver side latch doesn't release. I took the little bottem side cover off, and manually tried to push the release and nothing. Where can I get a new setup, preferably both latches and the lock cylinder?

Last question for the day. Does anyone sell aftermarket interior products for this car? Like digital guages, extra guages, things like that? Where do you guys buy your aftermarket and replacement parts?

Thanks!

PARTS ARE EXPENSIVE AND A FEW ARE HARD TO FIND YOU SHOULD CONSIDER FINDING A SECOND CAR AND USE ONE FOR PARTS AND FIX THE OTHER ITS THE BEST WAY TO GO. if the seat covers are not completely shreded you can use them as patterns, you can buy heavy cloth like denim or similar material dye it any color two or three colors if you like and with seam ripper seperate vinyl panels from original seats trace onto denim cut them out and sew together as a temporary fix till you can find some glove grade pigskin its cheaper than leather .list parts you think you need then explore faq, tech and link section of this sight and read the postings for what you need to do first on your car I think I read something hear about someone needing a hood. some of the people hear have websites that have indepth articles, tips, and tech advice youll find in the links section .when you find info that you need write were you found it there are alot of website with some of what you need good luck

If TOB is going do the complete clutch job while you are in there. The parts are not that bad. I think some one here was selling a kit for a reasonable price.

The switches in the center console. One is for power mirriors to switch from right to left. One is for rear wiper. One is for head light washers...... or previous owner
might have hooked them to one or more of his own additions. There are plugs that goe in these holes if you want to purchase some to clean the interior up... I am sure
some one here could provide those.

The switch on the dash that controls the fan..... There should be a rotary switch in the center of two guages that controls the AC fan. The slide levers control the heat/defrost
fan..... So if the switch that sits to the left and below what is normally the oil pressure guage is controlling a fan.... this was done by the previous owner and not the factory.

Ok what else did you ask....

Parts car would be good, but also post parts you need. There are many here that have parts cars that are willing to offere parts or sell them cheap.

Oh seats. Get in under them and unbolt them from the car. You can then inspect the mechanisms and lube/repair as needed. What color is your interior/seats? Lars was
selling a nice set of covers for passenger seat (tan leatheret) , you would just need to find drivers side.

The latch mechanism that holds the seats is cable actuated. When you pull the seats out you can inspect that the cables are not jammed or any of the components on the out
board section of the seat are not damaged. Definately much easier when the seat is out. (Only 4 nuts) It is very likely that the sunroof or rear hatch or battery box was leaking
which caused these components to sit in wet carpet and rust. Make sure you check all these areas for good seals and in the case of the battery area..... no holes in tray.

Anything else feel free to email me.
