Hey everyone,
I realize that I haven't been on in a long time and really haven't posted that much either. I have asked questions and got great answers that are very useful and I appreciate that. So I thought I would tell everyone what I am up to with my car.
I think I have finally decided to turn this car into a racing car. I'm going to either go with drifting or regular vroom vroom street racer. The thing is that I will definitely be doing an engine and tranny swap. I have a couple ideas so far.
1. Audi 90 Quattro engine
2. Audi TT engine (expensive)
3. Camaro engine (pretty against it but still considering)
4. S2000
5. 1JZ
6. L1
The 1JZ I can get from a friend close to me, I haven't discussed it yet. I also know that this is going to be a lot of work, especially for a first timer ^_^. To be honest this car is actually in really good shape still from what I know. Garage kept in winter, standard upkeep, engine well maintained. It has the standard fumes and water trouble. I've had it jacked up for 2 months now and only really done body work so far and have been too stressed out at work to do anything lately.
If anyone would be willing to save this car and trade me a good car without an engine and 5 lug I will definitely consider it. PM me and I will get back to you. I have a '79 924, 4 lug with gold phone dials (might keep them) and want to keep the 44 hatch I have.
Any advice would be great as well. I know that a lot of people don't like the drifting crowd, but I have always liked what I have seen and have been interested in it if I go with that. Plus my own crapping around has been fun.
For body style I already have some 944 fenders, need a front valance so I can delete the kneecapper bumper (like it, but nah), get some rear flares, and rear valance. So basically I love the wide body style of this car and I have a long way to go.
This is too long already and I will just stop here.

why not try to sell the car or part it out (the 4 lug phone dials will bring a pretty penny) and use the profits to buy a junker 944. I bought a 944 parts car for $250. It was a complete car but the automatic tranny was shot. I'm sure you could find a deal like that if you looked hard enough. _________________ 1980 924 NA

That's why I'm keeping them dials. I both like them and know their worth. I'm really in an eff'ed up situation of my life right now and I think if the car can go to a person who wants to make it 100% original it would be worth it and make me feel good, plus I wouldn't have to remove the engine myself.
There is a guy around here with a 944 that is just sitting, I was going to post it here for you guys to see, but when my daily crapped out, I needed a new car and losing my camera in my move didn't help. Damn I feel like a drama queen. But yeah that is a very good idea. Thanks _________________ 79' 924 Gorilla Mobile |

I've been working on getting this valance back in order. It was hanging together barely, in three pieces. But, using long haired bondo, it's back to one piece. Have to fill in cracks, remove the metal strip on the bottom that held it together for awhile, and it might fit with the 944 fenders. Or, I have a spare set of GTS fiberglass fenders from AIR that would work. On second look, looks like it works with your USA bumper. oops.

Yeah, it would work with the current bumper, I'll think about it, but I think I'm still going to go with the smooth body bumper if I can find one. I already have the fenders too. Thanks for the pic Grenadiers. _________________ 79' 924 Gorilla Mobile |

Talked to the friend with the 1jz. We're looking at 2.500 since he got it brand spanking new from an engine dealer for 2,800 and hasn't had it for too long. He would help me with the installation and everything included and even a turbo for about 150 extra. I trust this guy since he has gone to college for car work and knows this engine 100%.
I might go this way, what do you guys think? _________________ 79' 924 Gorilla Mobile |
