does anyone know if any of the major components from the VW Golf/Rabbit GTI 4cyl engine (1975 - ) can be used on the 924?
Here's the thinking behind the question:
1. The VW GTI 4 cyl came in 1.8L and 2.0L
2. The block and head look very similar to the 924
3. Earlier standard Golf/Rabbit pistons look similar to the std 924 pistons with the chamber in the piston.
Why am I asking such a strange question?
1. The 1984cc Golf engine apparently has a stroke of 92.8mm. If a 2L Golf crank could fit a 924 you would end up with a displacement of 2.2L.
2. The later GTI (Golf II?) head was twin-cam, 16 valve.

There are only a few pieces that are interchangeable that I have found. The timing belt and the tensioner. This VW engine is different from the 924 engine in many ways. It would be nice if a twin cam 16 valve head would fit but it doesn't.
