Can anyone tell me what the oil presure gauge
should read on startup and running on a 83 924?
I'm thinking of buying it. It starts up on 2 and
goes up to 4 when running at regular speeds.
Is this okay? Should i buy it? Someone told me
that this is too high. Is that true?

Please could someone let me know today before i
buy a lemon?

That sounds pretty reasonable to me... hardest test for it is you should take it out for a good hard run on the highway, then pull off and let it idle, see what the pressure at idle is there while it's still hot. That's when it'll be the lowest, and will come back up as the engine cools off from the high-speed run (and I'm talking normal highway speeds here, no need to speed for this test).

All in all, 2 bar at cold idle is fine; 1bar at hot idle is fine (can even go slightly lower for an OK engine), just so long as you get 4-5 bar by 2000RPM and higher.

My 83 has a strange engine (looks in pretty good shape but so S-L-O-W), and the pressure is as follow :
cold idle : (rare)6, then 5, then 4 bar
warm idle : 1-2 bar
cold "drag-race style" startup (err, very RARE, I take care of my 924...): up to 8-9 bar
warm burn-out with 6000rpm : 6-7 bar

Runs at following.

Cold Start 4Bar
Warm idle 1Bar
Warm 5000 Rev 5Bar
