Hi All!
it's time to solve some problems on my 1980 931... (broke every week? is this possible? hehe)
The turbo is smokey so i decide to dismantle the car and have a look "around"...
my Turbo-man has noticed that the central core has cracked but the compressor wheel and turbine wheel and assy are in perfect condition... luckily i have an older turbo with a good useable core so i can have the turbo perfectly rebuilt andreinforced with a 360degree washer for approximately 150 euros so no problems....
the exhaust line needs some welds... no problems
but the manifold is highly cracked... unfortunately the previus owner cracked the manifold and the welding process has been done from unexperienced people so it has cracked once again and more than before (shit! )
now i can have my manifold repaired from a very experienced man that insured me about the quality of the process and work...
i can also buy this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PORSCHE-OEM-924-Turbo-Exhaust-manifold-nice-1980_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ39Q3a1Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a3Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem400001030952QQitemZ400001030952
the seller states that is the updated version... is this true? will this be a direct fit? will i need some kind of mods?(i hope no...)
and.... my car has the 5 bolt setup and the 944 body and some 28mm front and 32mm rear spacer.... i really hate them on the front ( i have the quick manual rack) so steering is rediced a lot and tyres touch the fenders internally.... i'd like to upgrade to aluminium arms and eliminate the spacers...
are the aluminium arms longer than the steel one?
will fit my original hubs?
i will need for sure longer tie rods
any problems with the anti roll bar?
anything else i need to know?
many many thanks to all!

Buy the upgraded manifold. Plain & simple. The 596 part number is the upgraded part, and you can see in the second photo the reinforcing ribs for each runner.

Switching over to the late (i.e. 86.5+ alu setup does change the offset, but from what I understand also requires some other engineering, IIRC to the steering knuckles and such. Not a direct bolt on. The early alu arms (up to 86.5) are identical geometry to steel. So there's no easy solution for you.
I'm not clear where your interference is on the wheels. Maybe you need to roll your fenders? Maybe get wheels with a different offset instead of running spacers? _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

on The front side i have some 944 front fenders with some Fondmetal wheels

spacers was fitted from the previous owner to match offset... the problem i find is during the steering... i'm unable to do lock-to-lock because the of the tyre hitting the internal side of the car/shell
so my steering arch is sensibly reduced... this is no good in a town like Napoli _________________ 924T Dta inj + sequential LPG

I suspect the offset on those wheels is not correct for the suspension you have. Either that or they were designed for a car with power steering (e.g. the real 944). _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |
