it takes a while for my car to stabalize the idle once it has been started, often i have to give it gas for about 20 seconds before the idle will stop at 900-1000, if i dont it will run as low as 300-400 for a while before jumping up to normal. anyone know the reason for this? _________________ Why drink and drive when you can smoke and fly?

The AAV should be open when cold and gradually close as the engine warms. If it's not open when cold it could cause your symptoms. The WUR also - enriches the air:fuel when cold and gradually leans to the normal ratio as the engine warms. You could have a problem with one or both of those. Check the AAV first. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

my car does the same when first starting it up. it idle very low, like 300 sometimes 150 never stalls, and gradually goes up until normal rpm. _________________ 80' Porsche 924 NA - Slower then a S L O W

I've had the same problem, like it was mentioned it should be the aav or wur if it runs okay when warmed up. take your aav out put it in a airtight baggie and put it in the freezer for one hour and it should be at least halfway open or more.
mine opens up so I don't know if my wur isn't working. wur is pretty expensive to replace.
running at very low rpm isn't probably good for the engine the oil pressure drops and it would be running really rough and shaking etc. _________________ 78 924 sold.
