They can whine quite a bit and still function, especially if the mounting bracket is bad.

well the whine was quite loud, I tried turnig off the engine several times to see if ... well ... I guess you just try ridiculous things when there are no other options. After about a half hour of LA parkig lot driving (freeway) it started to get quieter and it went completely silent in a span of 15mins. Drove another 2 hours no noise. I really hate going to the airport to pick up people even if it is a relation fron Germany. On this trip I got to see an upside down vehicle completely burned beyond recognition, and 20 miles later, a dead motorcycle rider still with helmet on, pool of blood, and no ambulance or police on the scene. someone put a t-shirt over his visor. There is really no way emergency crews can get to an accedent within a half hour during rush hour on the freeway.

I saw a flipped sportcar wreck yesterday and a semi truck accident on i-5
that was scary ...How much gas you got in the tank my wine starts when its about out or I once had one whine all the time cause of a bad bracket.

I had about 3/4 tank when it was whining. Didn't put in gas the whole trip. I have never looked at the fuel pump or bracket, will do that tomorrow when its light. Never had a reason to crall under that part of the car.
I have a fuel pressure guage in the dash, and it never flinched from 80psi during the whining period.

mine whines too but it is still functioning. the whining gets louder when its running out of gas. I'm not sure what causes the whining.

I would be interested to hear more about the fuel pressure gauge, when you have time. Maybe some pics?

Ojai! Hell, I was cruising through there back in Sept... though not in any of my P-cars...

That pump noise may or may not be concerning, not a guaranteed indicator of impending failure. Still might not hurt to start saving for a replacement?

You boys sure do have some nice roads out there to play in...
