The plug wires out the top of my distributor rub the underside of my hood. I was wondering what might cause this. I’m not sure if this is due to an after market distributor from the P/O or not.

Check the distributor mount on the back of the head - it should be attached by the lower bolt hole as shown here -

i look at my car and the picture you posted and the bolts are in the wrong place. How should i go about changing this. Is it as simple as taking the three bolts out and rotating? and if so will this alter the timinng?

It's on there with a gasket (part no.: 048.905.341A) that will most likely tear and need to be replaced when you move the mount.
Not 100% sure if the timing will change, but I'd guess yes.

There should be holders that route the plug wires and hold them away from the hood.
I now see this is not the problem you refer to but I just wanted to see my new avitar.
Do the plug wires have a 90 degree turn as they come out of the dist?

yes they have 90 turns and this is the part that hits the hood. I think smoothie has the solution im looking for. As to the dist being aligned to the wrong holes how could this have happedn was this a factory setting or more stupidity on the part of a PO?

What is a Dizzy clamp? Also is this easy fix rotating the bolts to the correct place like smothie suggested?
