Picked up a 1980 Turbo a few weeks ago. Turns out it's a Turbo "S" model with G31 LSD. Has forged 16x6 dish wheels, etc. Body is in decent shape, needs paint and new lower valance/spoiler, otherwise decent.
My original plan was to buy a 5-lug wheeled Turbo and do a GT replica. I already have the "euro" 944 fenders, Fuchs, rear spoiler and complete NOS interior (even a NOS dash!) Also have all the OEM "GT" lights (same as the "euro" 924 with driving lights in the bumper)
Now I'm starting to wonder if I should restore it back to it's original state or would it be a shame to do such a thing to a 931S. Maybe just add 924 euro bumpers?
Any thoughts? |

I think you might as well get rid of the 931S and all the NOS parts you have.
I'll even pay shipping, PM me for details... _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

| 931Ss with matching numbers and factory installed LSDs are more rare than Carrera GT conversions. |

Possibly true. But the 924 Turbo S must be a rare bird indeed. I've never seen nor heard of one other than in books.
My two cents... I'd wanna keep it all original. Unless it's a real junker, it'd be a shame to butcher it. _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

I vote for stock look. If you want big flared fenders and power, then pick up a 951. I think the 924 lines are much more sleek and much less "I am 80's, here me roar".

I already have a '91 944S2, so I have the flares, power and handling. What's wrong with the '80's!!!! hehe Actually, not to start a war with 924 gang cuz I love the 924 too which is why I bought one - but 924 looks much more early 80's dated than the S2 too me - mainly when they are parked side by side - the S2 is way more modern in styling all around and is a more refined car in how it drives (mine is the 91 with a 968 style wing as stock).
So I'm starting to learn towards keeping it stock and find another 924 later to do the "GT" stuff on. |

Having an orginal GT, great. Having a replica, just a bunch of fiberglass. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo |

If you have the money and the time do whatever makes you happy. I changed my 924 over to look like a GT and I like it. In the avatar it look to be a pale color but it is really Polar silver.
I too like the slim look. Most people will think it is a 924NA. Make it look beefy then be prepared to stoplight race.
My neighbor always looked at my Porsches and would say he wanted to get a sports car. For years he would say so. Well he now has Parkinsens and is about 80 years old. No car though. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

| I am thinking of changing my euro 931 to a carrera gt replica. I already have the kit but cant make my mind up if i want to fit it or not. At the end of the day, its personal preference and i personally prefer the look of the carrera gt and as i am keeping the car for a long time i think i will put the kit on. I dont think it would de-value the car if it is done properly, i have seen standard 924s with gt kits going on ebay for £4000. Only thing that scares me, is cutting into the rear arches to fit the flared arches. |

im going to start on my conversion in a couple of days, ive been back and fourth on it for a couple of years. i like the lithe lines of the stock body, but in the end i decided i wanted to push out the wheels a bit more than the stock body will allow, and the CGT body is awesome looking , but in a different way... ive always liked the "mean " stance of a car with a small forward rake and that sits like a pit bull, which was a very popular look in the 70's / early 80's, and the cgt kit will allow at least the illusion of the old fat tire look, yet still handle properly and look "factory" ...
Gotta do whats good for you... who cares what we think?? _________________ Eric
