I had a similar issue with my car when I first bought it and the problem was due to the boot between the Air/Fuel Distributor and Turbo neck being cracked and leaking air.

Could also be a dodgy fuel pump relay connection. I had a similar problem which was caused by carbon build up on the relay board pins. Once I cleaned them up and it started every time.

Yes it is a 3mm hex key. It is very sensitive to adjustments so only turn 1/8-1/4 turn at a time. One full turn will most likely screw it up.

FYI, the part number for the Superpro bushes were - SPF647K (Inboard) & SPF648K (Outboard). They are even a cool purple colour and are the same part # as for the Mk1 Golf.
