Here's the deal. 1979 924 sebring. The head gasket blew and I have replaced. Also replaced front oil seal, plug wires, rotar, distributor cap, timing belt, all other belts, bigger radiator for better cooling. Now I have set the timing as per the manuals, put the light to it and it still has no power. Compresion appears fine when tested. The engine will rev above 4000 rpm with no load, but when driving in 3rd or higher gear it will not exceed 3000 rpm and has no acceleration power. It is not burning oil, leaking coolent, and the timing appear to be correct.
I am suspecting that the issue may be with the vacuum system or am I going to have to dig into the fuel injection?
Any thought would be appreciated. |

| could just be a vacuum leak or your air fuel ratio needs to be adjusted . |

Did you buy it with the blown head gasket, or did it blow after you bought it?
If the head gasket blew after you bought it, how bad did it overheat when it blew?
If it was running when you got it, how well was it running?
Did you replace all of the vacuum lines when you were done with the head gasket, and are you sure that you put them all back in the right places.
When you used the timing light to set the timing, what rpm did you use, did you disconnect or plug the vacuum advance and/or retard lines to the distributor?
What is the number of degrees of advance (or retard) that you set the ignition timing to?
Did you check the spray pattern of the fuel injectors?
Did you replace the fuel injector seals , and reseal, or replace, and seal, the fuel injector inserts when you replaced the head gasket?
Did you have the head "shaved" when the head was off?
Have you cheked the spark plugs since the engine was reassembled to see if the individual cylinders are running correctly?
Have you checked the valve clearances since the engine has been reassembled?
Have you played with both the idle mixture, and idle speed since the engine was reassembled? |

You set the cam timing right? Most common thing to screw up when doing a head gasket, BTDT.
You ought to hook up w/ John Brown, he's in Leesburg too!!! _________________ Vaughan Scott

| whent out to look at the timing and all the other stuff and found that we put the timing off just a few degrees and reset the rotor in the distrubuter. now im haveing a problem with hot starts. it starts cold but once its warmed up it just cranks. im thinkin its the fuel injector now and im goin to go through and replace the vacuum lines also. if anyone has any other ideas they would be greatly apprectiated. |
