I'm about to start fabricating the engine mounts for my v8 conversion...
should I make solid motor mounts that bolt right to the block out of steel.. or should I modify the original (camaro Z28) motor mounts so I can have the rubber vibration protection.... |

Every motor mount I have seen (for street use) has a rubber mount. _________________ 1981 924 NA

| I have seen motor mounts on race cars without rubber. I think I will probably keep the rubber, I am just curious on how much my teeth will rattle, if they only rattle a little bit thats fine, but I don't want them to rattle alot.. |

Solid stainless steel motor mounts are the way to go.
Thanks,

| I would definitely go with rubber. I'd worry about metal fatigue on the unibody at the mount points with solid mounts. On a car with a tubular frame (like a racecar) the frame is substantial enough, like 1/8"-1/4" thick walled tubing, that it can take that kind of abuse.....our unibodies are out of stamped 20 (or so) gauge sheet metal and probably wouldn't last too long with the vibration solid mounts would transfer into the frame. |

Thanks Alex, the metal fatigue was what I was worried about too, just wanted to see what other people might say about it...
I test fitted the engine into the engine bay last night and it actually fits pretty nicely.. I will definatley have to modify the oil pan and maybe do something creative with the exhaust though... |
