My 924 came without a rear view mirror. I have purchased a mirror to install, but there is still dry glue from where the old mirror was mounted.
Anyone have experience with removing this dried on glue? Any tips or tricks to help remove it? The new glue container says the surface should be clean before mounting the new mirror.
Thanks,

try some aceton or xylene to soften it up and hopefully you can just wipe it away or you might try and scrape it with a razor. _________________ -'87 Jeep Cherokee 4.0L 6" of lift 33" Super Swampers

You'll probably have to go the razor blade route to get the old stuff off. Most of those glues are cyano-acrylate or some such super-glue. Once it's clean, use acetone to prep the glass before using the new glue to stick it on. They make a special CA glue just for the mirror installation. I believe it is marketed as being very resistant to UV degradation over time. If at all possible, mount the mirror's mount to the glass (without the weight of the mirror), then add the actual mirror after it's cured all day. _________________ '79 Eurospec 931 |

Hey Chrenan, where'd you get your mirror? The bodyshop busted the original glass and the replacement glass didn't come with the mounting hardware. I checked the Parts and Technical Reference manual and there is a part number for the mount so I ordered it from the Dealership. That was quite a while ago and since I haven't heard back from them I have to assume, as usual, this part is no longer available. _________________ Doodle

Hey Doodle,
Good to see another Edmonton guy here, that makes 3 of us (positivesales is also from Edmonton). I hate to tell you this, but I got the mirror at Part Source on Calgary Trail South, just a generic small size rear view mirror. I'll probably offend every purist here, but I just couldn't find an original one easily enough or cheap enough so I took the easy way out. Sorry.

Parts Source!! Right on. I'll check the one on the North side to see what they've got. Generic and cheap when it comes to rear view mirrors is okay with me. If it's not too much trouble could you PM me their part number? Might save me some time and hassle. _________________ Doodle
