My rims on the front need to be sanded and fixed up a bit, is $50 a good deal for a "like-new" rim when it's finnished?

I'd have to say "it depends". It depends on what they do for $50 per rim. I've got 15" spiderwebs and paid about $20/rim to get the tires dismounted and the rims blasted, cleaned and prepped, then almost $70/rim to have them powder coated. That would have been way too much in my opinion for a phone-dial or flat-dish rim, but because of the work involved (all those nooks and crannys) I went with it.

Yours too have a lot of nooks and crannys, so, depending on what they do, $50 may be a decent deal. If they just steam clean and spray paint it would be a rip-off though. I suspect with wheel refinishing, you will get what you pay for.
