OK, so what's the big secret?

When my wife takes the family Jeep to be detailed, she pays a couple bucks extra for the tire treatment. Quite frankly, it's worth it because the tires shine (nice wet look) for a month.

I've tried almost every "off the shelf" product available from treatments to foams and sprays without the same result. Most of these products look nice for about an hour.

So what's the big detailers secret that I don't know?

I want to know as well. I love clean tires and rims. I use BMW Aluminum wheel cleaner. And have nothing to use on my tires. Like Stu2J I have had no luck in finding a tire shiner.

Here's a few selections from a detailer supply place:

I got some stuff called something like Ardex Speedy Brite here in NJ quite a few years ago from a detailer supply store. It's pretty good, but I don't know if it or that store are still around.

Stu, Here is what I have found that works awesome on paint & dressing http://www.ipdusa.com/ProductsList.aspx?subSubCategoryID=142 OR http://www.automagic.com/

All of there products are great you can see the results. http://photos.yahoo.com/phogphire1 one of my 924's was heavily oxideized and you now can't tell the difference between the two.

But the 33A magic dressing is what I use on the tires, dash, cargo cover, rubber bumpers, etc,

BC1 & BC2 are good paint cleaning and glossing products to start with equal to if not better than Meguiers. I would say that 80% of the "retail detail" shops ( Volume detailers that clean up cars taken in or trade or bought at an auction that have been neglected and are to be sold retail) use auto magic because it is good quality but not as expensive as the high end products, so that they can still make a profit

Watch out! Be careful 78porsche924 only leave it on for 30 secs. Then hose it off. Make sure you get it all or it will eat your rims. When I got my car a year ago brake dust was living on my rims, so I cleaned them in stages and now after a few cleanings they loook fab u lus!

Yeah, I hate it but yes the dealer. I can't find it in stores. When I ask the clerk I get "all the wheel cleaners are in that isle."

I'll probably piss a few dealers and such mentioning this but stiff.

The secret to the good tyre shine is.........wait for it ........silicone.

Same stuff in most polishes and is the main ingrediant for tyre shines.
I've found the best luck with silicone sprays (for locks, hinges, etc), sprayed onto a rag and wiped on. The retail tyre shines seem to have a small percentage of silicone that shines for a while but fades in a week or so.

Clear silicone spray is the stuff to get (in Australia CRC silicone spray) normally almost twice the price of tyre shines but will last ages and has a million uses.

BE WARNED...silicone spray on steering wheels, pedals or gear sticks can make driving rather exciting.

I just checked the MSDS on the magic dressing it is silicone based plus Minreal spirits (sorry California) plus frangance but no chemical smell just a pleasant smell. If you check out some of the detailing books or detailers, minieral spirits is another trade secret. they don;t want you to know about

Here is the MSDS on what I use http://www.automagic.com/MSDS/33-msds.htm
